It's been a good long time since I entered a design competition. 1985 to be exact, 41 years ago I entered a logo in a contest to choose the new logo for Pasco Downtown Development Association. Here is a preview of multi-page brochure I have entered into the Communication Arts 2026 Design Competition. Big thanks to Michelle Norr Lippold for editing and proofreading, my friend Käri Arns for giving me a second eye for the design, and Kimberly Teske Fetrow for the wonderful photos! I figure, no glory if I don't enter, so here goes!

A dear friend, colleague, peer recently had her Facebook account hacked by a troll. There was monetary damage. Kimberly Teske Fetrow did get her account back. So please, if you are a client or friend of her, the real Kim is back but if you see things that just don’t feel right, reach out to her by other means. None of it was her fault! Be careful out there, lock up those accounts, change your passwords, and keep a close eye on your friends accounts. If something feels wrong, call them!

Question for my peers: When a client comes knocking, and are asking for artwork be done to replace artwork that is already really good, in my opinion. How do you go about questioning their choice to rework it. I'm sure they may have a good reason. I feel that should at least ponder not making the change. This seems counterintuitive for my business, I know. Why don't I just shut up, change the artwork and make the money?

This post is for my peers in the Graphic Design community. Expect a scam project request for proposal. There's a scam that's been around for a few years, but seems to be working its way around again. You'll get a text message asking for help with a logo and catalog layout for a company called Nestaro Homes out of California. The name of the company may change but the details remain the same. Another clue that it's the scam is how concise the request is, including a schedule of 12 weeks. So, save yourself the time and ignore it.
