Michael Pankowski, a dedicated individual with a strong commitment to service, proudly served in the United States Navy from 1978 to 1989. His journey in the Navy began at the Recruit Training Command (RTC) in Orlando, where he underwent rigorous training to prepare for his future roles.
Following his time at RTC Orlando, Pankowski pursued specialized education in mechanics at the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, acquiring valuable skills that would contribute to his success in the Navy. Eager to expand his knowledge and take on more significant responsibilities, he then attended nuclear power school in Orlando, demonstrating his dedication to mastering complex technical aspects of naval operations.
With a solid foundation in nuclear power, Pankowski further honed his expertise at the Naval Prototype Training Unit (NPTU) in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. This experience equipped him with the practical knowledge essential for operating and maintaining nuclear propulsion systems, a critical component of submarine operations.
Michael Pankowski's career reached a significant milestone with his involvement in the new construction of the USS Jacksonville. As a Machinist's Mate First Class (MM1), Submarine Service (SS), he played a crucial role in ensuring the efficient functioning of the submarine's machinery, showcasing his technical proficiency and leadership skills.
Throughout his eleven years of service, Michael Pankowski exemplified the Navy's core values of honor, courage, and commitment. His contributions to the USS Jacksonville and his dedication to excellence in the field of nuclear propulsion underscore his lasting impact on the naval community.
