Good grief! While McD was busy opening its doors in 1966, kids were holding vigils in pumpkin patches and trick-or-treating for rocks — and oh yeah, dogs were dreaming about World War I. "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!" marked the second holiday-themed special for the Peanuts gang, telling the story of Linus's quest to meet the titular, legendary character only to be mocked by those around him. The story also features good ole’ Charlie Brown — draped in a ghost costume with a few too many holes — repeatedly striking out while his friends amass bags full of candy, plus Snoopy imagining himself flying his trusty Sopwith Camel in search of the Red Baron. Directed by Bill Melendez and featuring the smooth jazz of the Vince Guaraldi Trio — whose music became synonymous with the franchise — the made-for-TV special became an instant Halloween classic for generations to come.
