Knowing your numbers is essential to understanding whether your lawn care business is truly profitable and scalable. Net profit margin, labor costs, breakeven revenue, job profitability, and owner pay each provide valuable insight into your business. Tracking these metrics consistently can help you make better decisions, improve efficiency, and build a stronger business.

Growth requires more than higher revenue. It also requires healthy cash reserves and financial stability. Building a strong cash position before scaling gives you the flexibility to make smarter decisions and grow your business with less stress.

Reaching $500K in revenue requires more than simply taking on more customers. Building systems, developing a strong team, knowing your numbers, and confidently raising prices can create the foundation for sustainable growth. The goal is to build a business that can operate efficiently while giving you more time to work on the business instead of constantly working in it.

A packed schedule does not always translate into a profitable business. Improving pricing, tracking job profitability, optimizing routes, and understanding your break even point can help turn more work into better financial results.

09/15/2026

Growing your profits does not always require finding more customers. Improving pricing, reducing unnecessary costs, and strengthening cash flow can increase your take home income while making your business more efficient.

Long term growth starts with thinking beyond day to day work. Building systems, investing in the right tools, and making decisions with the future in mind can transform a side hustle into a scalable, successful business.

Your bank account balance does not tell the full story of your business. Tracking your break even point, labor costs, and close rate each week can help you make smarter decisions and improve long term profitability.

A well trained crew lead should manage daily operations without relying on the owner for every decision. Delegating responsibilities like route planning, quality checks, and on site problem solving gives you more time to focus on growing your business.

In our last CEO After Hours, a client brought up an issue we hear from SO many of you guys: how do you actually find good employees? One of our LCL clients shared the exact process he uses, and it's too good not to pass along.

Here's the framework:
βœ… Post on Indeed (or some hiring platform) β€” but go in knowing it's a numbers game.

Jake's average is about 60 applications for every 1 good hire. Don't get discouraged by the volume. That's normal, not a red flag on your business.

βœ… Once someone applies, don't call them for the phone interview β€” make THEM call you. And schedule it between 6am and 7am.

Why this one detail matters so much: it instantly filters for the people who actually want the job. On Jake's numbers, only 1 in 4 applicants actually follow through and make that call. That single step does more screening than any interview question could.

βœ… If they pass the phone interview, move to an in-person interview β€” also scheduled in the morning, for the same reason. You're continuing to test for reliability and initiative before you ever hand over a truck key.

The genius of this process isn't the questions asked β€” it's that the structure itself does the filtering. Early mornings and reversed call responsibility surface who's serious before you invest real time in them.

Save this framework for your next hiring push. πŸ™Œ

Small pricing mistakes can quietly reduce your profits even when your business is busy. Pricing with accurate costs, target margins, and the value you provide helps build a stronger and more sustainable lawn care business.
