This has been bugging me lately.

It's happening online a lot.

Websites that expect you to sign up for their service before telling you anything about their service: what it is, how it operates, what it costs.

You hear of something that sounds intersting, go to the website and, instead of learning about their service, they want you to sign up for a free trial. No info. No other links to any real information. Just sign up. Or get lost.

I feel it’s a rather poor marketing technique.

Maybe it’s me but I’d really rather know some of the ins and outs of something before I create an account with that organization.

Anyone else feel this way?

At the very least, offer up a video that explains what you do. That's what FLIR did with their InSite application. In fact, they created several videos for a full explanation along a sales funnel!

Sound off! Heading to a tradeshow? Make sure the video you're presenting works with or without sound, as most people at a trade show aren't going to hear it. Fact is, many people are now viewing videos with the volume down. Some prefer the sound off so the video they're watching on their phone doesn't disturb others. And many newer browsers automatically turn the sound off. Honeywell's Multisite video is a classic example of tradeshow videos done right. BOOM!

A great marketing video doesn’t mean days interrupting your business with camera gear and a video production crew. The right story-teller can build a powerful video using stock imagry. ServicePower Field Software is a classic example. All they had was a logo. We filled in the rest!
