Ash Wednesday is here, and with it we begin Lent. This quote from Saint Pope John Paul II is one of my favorites and is always helpful to me at the outset of this season. This is such an important time to honor God and our faith but also an incredible opportunity for growth. May the Lenten season bring you insight, provide helpful penance, and fill you with more faith and security in your own personal relationship with not only God but the world around you.

Happy day before Lent! Shrove Tuesday? Pancake Tuesday? Marci Gras Fat Tuesday? Carnival? What do you call today? How do you celebrate the closing of one time to enter into another? King cake? Beauty is everywhere, and often in the small things. I was sitting with three of our kids who were playing in mud and mentally bemoaning all the work cleaning them and their clothes up was going to be. Then I looked over and saw this little ladybug. Got to reconnect and finally get this decal on a priest-friend of ours. Father has named his Theotokos, literally “God bearer” and a traditional name for the Holy Mother of God in the Eastern Church. We designed this icon from start to finish for Fr. John and really love how it turned out.
