I asked ChatGPT what percentage of digital marketing professionals have as much experience as I do. I'm in my 28th year in digital.

As a digital marketer going into his 28th year in digital, I prefer to work with certain types of businesses.

First off, I enjoy working with brands that are interested in a long-term relationship. That's not for my sake, but for the sake of my clients. Starting over every 12 months is silly.

Very few businesses will truly benefit by working with a marketing consultant for a 12-month term. If the marketer is truly in the trenches with you on a daily basis, then they're the kind of marketer with you you want to partner.

Next, working with a marketing agency means paying for their overhead costs. Why should you pay a good chunk of their electricity bill on top of your marketing costs? (I understand how this works because I've worked for a large marketing agency in the past.

Finally, when you sign a contract with a marketer, you'll be limited to only what's specifically stated in the contract. With me, I see the contract work as the bare minimum of what I'll do for you and you and your brand... not the limit.

All of my work comes to me through referrals. Please be patient if you reach out to me and we can't begin our work together for a month or two. I put my current clients first, then you can join that roster.

One of the most difficult jobs for a marketing consultant, such as myself, is to attempt to market a product that does solve a problem people know they have.

If a company needs to first convince a consumer or a business they have a problem and then sell them on the solution they're offering, they'll likely fail as a business.

Red Drop Digital isn't an agency. Instead, I'm a digital marketing consultant who has been actively working in the industry since 1996.

My work tends to come to me via referrals and these days I prefer to focus my work on social media strategy development and managing those daily campaigns for my clients.

I don't take on every project. I agree to work on the ones where it makes the most sense for the client and also for me.

When I'm in an especially busy season, I simply ask prospective clients to wait for my availability to open. When that doesn't work for the client and their timing I'll do my best to help them find a vetted consultant or agency that can meet their needs.

Twitter is currently the most misunderstood social media platform for businesses.

It offers the powerful combination of hashtags and links within tweets to get target audience members deeper into your website (and closer to conversion).

Facebook and LinkedIn are set-up for hashtag searches, but hashtag searches on those platforms aren't currently used often.

Instagram is big on hashtag searches, but no links in posts.

Right now, a lot of businesses are doing good business via Twitter as it's currently pure low-hanging fruit (who knows what it will look like a year or two from now?).

Here's a bit of info about the platform, how it's used and who uses it:

69% of users have already purchased from a business because of something they saw on Twitter.

93% of users who follow small & medium-sized businesses plan to purchase from the brands they follow.

22% of U.S. adults use Twitter.

Tweets with hashtags receive 100% more engagement.

Tweets with video receive 10x more engagement.

Average age of Twitter users is 40 (Facebook, 40 & Instagram, 34).

You don't begin working with Red Drop Digital because I pitched you. That's because I don't pitch anyone anymore.

All of the work that comes to my business, Red Drop Digital, comes through referrals and relationships. All of it.

I choose which clients to take on, large or small, based on being able to meet their needs and then meet additional goals above and beyond expectations. The work I agree to in contracts is the least amount of work I’ll do for a client instead of the Statement of Work being the limit.

I believe in delighting my clients when they least expect it.
