A WINTER STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM SUNDAY TO 7 AM EST TUESDAY
WHAT...Heavy amounts of freezing rain are expected, along with some snow. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches and ice accumulations between a quarter inch and half of an inch are forecast.
WHERE... Breathitt, Estill, Floyd, Jackson, Johnson, Lee, Magoffin, Martin, Morgan, Owsley, Powell, Rockcastle and Wolfe counties
WHEN...The Winter Storm Warning is from 7 AM Sunday to 7 AM EST Tuesday.
IMPACTS...Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions may impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will develop on Sunday morning, and then change to freezing rain in the afternoon and evening. A switch to plain rain is expected in many places for a time on Sunday night. Remaining precipitation will change back to snow late Sunday night and Monday. The heaviest precipitation is expected Sunday afternoon and Sunday night. Although total snowfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are forecast, the largest amount on the ground at any given time may be less due to freezing rain and rain occurring in the middle of the winter storm, atop the initial snowfall.
