I live in Birmingham, Alabama and I have been in the Internet business since 1996. I started out in graphic design and within a couple of years I progressed into website design. I moved to Alabama in 1998 and started working for various website design companies. Shortly after I learned how to develop websites, I realized programming was a necessary skill. Php, asp and perl were the first programming languages I learned and I quickly progressed into database languages, such as SQL and mySQL. In early 2000, Flash became big and designing websites went from HTML to SWF very quickly. DHTML was also new, but never really caught on due to cross browser incompatibilities. I loved designing in Flash and hated to see it go when apple introduced iphones with the non-flash supporting ios. HTML5 was introduced in 2014 and responsive web design is now becoming a standard.
I don’t do a lot of custom programming these days because I use WordPress for most of my clients. WordPress has the framework that use to cost $10,000 for a content managed, database driven website. WordPress is also easy to update and backup. You know this is very important if your site has ever been hacked into.
For 20 years I have been doing graphic and website design. My creative skills are put to work when I customize a wordpress theme for every individual client. My programming skills are used to modify existing plugins or themes based on customer integration needs. My consulting and marketing skills have been tuned from two decades of trial and error. I know what works and what does not.
Every website is different and I never like a cookie cutter solution.
