On Thursday, June 11, the Rowland School of Business' Rising Brothers and Sisters Initiative hosted its annual breakfast gathering for core and partner high schools. Dr. Mitch Nickols, Director of Rising Brothers & Sisters, reviewed the program's success during the 2025-26 school year. Also in attendance was Willie Parker, a former Running Back for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who is a proud supporter of this initiative.

Special thank you to our core and partner schools invited to this event: Aliquippa High School, Allderdice High School (PPS), Allegheny Middle School (PPS), Gateway High School, Penn Hills High School, The Neighborhood Academy, River Valley High School, Sto-Rox High School, Valley High School, and Woodland Hills High School.

The Rowland School of Business would also like to thank our initiative partners, Dollar Bank and Mascaro Construction, for your support and for taking the time to speak to schools at this event! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŒŸStudent of the Term๐ŸŒŸ

Joe Phillips is a Pittsburgh native and served as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Management while pursuing his MBA. He was also actively involved in the Student Accounting Association, reflecting his strong commitment to both academics and professional development.

Joe credits much of his growth to the support of his RSB faculty, with a special shoutout to Professors Amy Cesario and Sandy Mervosh. He shares that they played a key role in helping him realize his passion for accounting, guiding him through a major change during his undergraduate years. With their supportโ€”especially Amyโ€™s help in catching up on courseworkโ€”Joe was able to successfully transition into the accounting track and graduate on time.

For underclassmen, Joeโ€™s advice is simple: get involved early. Building connections with professors, peers, and professionals can make a significant difference in both academic success and career opportunities.

Fun fact: Joe is a triplet! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›

Last month, Pittsburgh hosted the 2026 NFL Draft. Some of the festivities were near campus, at Point State Park, and in the city's North Side.

Many Rowland School of Business students were able to participate in the Draft in various forms, including the Sports Management major, Savannah Kitchen.
