their 16th Annual Chili Cook-Off this Saturday
Friendly, Fun Competition Raises Awareness and Funds for BLCA

October 7, Pittsburgh PA, The Braddock Carnegie Library Association is hosting their 16th Annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday October 7, 2023, from 1 - 4 p,m. at the Brew Gentlemen Beer Garden at 512 Braddock Avenue in Braddock, PA. This event is being hosted to bring the community together for a day of friendly competition and fun. Proceeds benefit the BCLA’s programs and services.

The Chili Cook-Off is sponsored by Brew Gentleman, Epic Metals, Grandview Development Company, Heritage Community Initiatives, and others. Awards will be given out in the following categories: People’s Choices, Judge’s Choice and Most Creative Chili. Local, celebrity judges include Ed Bailey, Chris Fennimore, and Rick Sebak, and the event is hosted by Mike Canton, who is the host and producer of the Soul Show.

“We are so excited for the BCLA and our local community to come together for this special event which supports the important programs and services we provide. We’re grateful the Chili Cook-Off has been a staple in Braddock and our surrounding service areas for the past 16 years,” shares Vicki Vargo, BLCA Executive Director.

Over the past 130 years, the BCLA has provided library & community center activities, saving the building from demolition, raising funds & awareness to restore the building, becoming a member of the Allegheny County Library Association which allows us to exchange materials with other libraries and be awarded the honor of a National Historic Landmark.

We are currently searching for a talented and dedicated part-time staff writer to contribute to our publication. If you have a way with words and a desire to tell compelling stories about our community, we want to hear from you!

Pay: Part-time (up to 20hrs per week at $16 hr) or Freelance (up to $50 per 850word well-written article with sources)

Responsibilities:
- Conduct research, interviews, and investigations to gather information for news articles
- Write engaging and accurate articles covering local news, events, community issues, and human-interest stories
- Collaborate with the editorial team to develop story ideas and pitch article concepts
- Adhere to deadlines and produce high-quality content in a fast-paced environment
