Not all physician media channels produce the same results. Three years of performance data across 15 channels showed a clear hierarchy.
Based on a physician reputation media program we ran, here's how channels ranked from most to least effective measured by verified physician reach, engagement quality, and connection to reputation outcomes:
Specialty eNewsletters (the anchor channel): Physicians actively read them. Best-performing placements produced CTRs 10–40x higher than programmatic display. Should represent 40–50% of a physician media budget.
Programmatic native advertising (targeted to verified physician credentials): 37% of unique physician reach in the program came exclusively through this channel.
LinkedIn with physician-verified targeting: The familiarity builder. Physician images and peer-authored content dramatically outperform institutional brand content.
Streaming audio: Pure awareness, low cost. Audio plus video campaigns showed 331% CTR lift over video alone.
What didn't work in RSML-managed program audits: Connected TV (near-zero verified physician reach) and Twitter/X (brand safety concerns).
