I say jokingly but am entirely serious when I say, "Depending on the context, if you're the best kept secret...
you're either going to be out of business soon or single for the rest of your life."
Point being we can only make decisions based off options we KNOW OF- if you're not known, you're not an option. Period.
And here's the thing...
In life, I've come to realize we get the order of operations wrong which produces little to no results, or worse- keeps us in a preparation / planning phase (a.k.a. procrastination).
Most businesses go into the marketplace ready to compete when they first start up thinking they're going to be the NEW sensation because they have an IDEA...
with many getting little traction, regardless of how much effort they put in.
That's because when a business first starts up, the priority is to GET KNOWN... to BECOME AN OPTION in people's decision making process!
THEN compete.
Imagine...
competing for a job position in which you never applied or submitted a resume for.
Many would say the person who does that is foolish...
yet this is how many businesses start AND operate.
They want to be considered in the marketplace when they never even applied for a position in the consumers mind!
Thank about that for a few seconds.
If you watch Shark Tank ABC, there are a line of questions asked of EVERY person who approaches the sharks- how or what's your plan for marketing / getting the word out (a.k.a. getting known in the marketplace).
That's because they know, to quote Grant Cardone- "if they [consumers] don't know you, they can't flow you".
