Small business owners, entrepreneurs let’s face it, NEGATIVE reviews SUCK! When you read it before you know it you are typing a furious response and making sure to have your Caps lock on so they know you mean business. But before you hit send on that next 1-star review, talk a walk, count to 100 (sometimes it takes that much), do a yoga session, and then consider how you want to respond.
I tend to think of reviews as sometimes having a live conversation with someone, with anyone able to listen in at any point, and you have to think of it from their point of view. If you came upon the owner of a business and customer having an argument right outside of a clothing store, are you likely to continue to walk in and shop at that store, or would you google another place that seems friendlier and has what you want?
Now if we have a similar scenario and the customer is irate and yelling while the business owner is calm and doing their best to answer any of the issues that they may have had. What feeling would you get then? For me, I would feel confident that this business is willing to listen and help get me that service or product that will fit my needs.
For many people who read your reviews, it’s not the review that sets their level of confidence, it’s how the business responded that will help them decide whether or not to do business with you.
Hope this tip helps, comment below if you have had negative reviews and how did you handle them.
How is a negative review a good thing? It all depends on how you respond. Actually, all your potential customers pay more attention to how you respond to the actual review.
