[OPEN CALL] We're inviting South-Asian writers, storytellers, and creatives to be a part of Varta. Our call for submissions is now open. The theme this year is "Weave" combining heritage identities with lived experiences to build new art.

The event will take place in Austin on December 5th, 2026.

The deadline to submit your proposal is June 5th, 2026 and we will reach back out to you by June 30th, 2026. We look forward to seeing your proposals and sharing your art with the community!

The cat is out of the bag! 🎉

Our theme for 2026 is "WEAVE" where we talk about how heritage identities merge with lived experiences to create art.

And what better way to honor that than bringing back VARTA, our beloved annual South Asian storytelling festival, to the heart of Austin? This is our 5th year celebrating South Asian culture, history, books, and storytelling and the 3rd time bringing it to our Austin home.
