Last weekend we unveiled the 250 mural we’ve been painting with the help of our friends at the Greater Livingston County Arts Council.

We also call it the 3Cs mural. The image inside each number represents an aspect of Pontiac and Livingston County that helps tell the story of our community and what makes us American.

In the number 2, we have an image of one of our beautiful parks and one of our swinging bridges. This number represents the first C, “Connection”, not only the connections we make with family and friends in our parks, but also the important role these bridges played in Pontiac’s history. When they were originally constructed, they helped connect one side of town to the other, allowing people to cross the river and commute to factories and businesses.

The number 5 features the Civil War monument on the corner of our town square and represents “Courage”, the courage of the men and women of Pontiac and Livingston County who have served in uniform and fought to protect our nation and its freedoms.

And lastly, the number 0 represents “Cultivation”. Pontiac is obviously a very agriculture-forward community. Farming plays a major role not only in our economy, but also in our culture and identity. We are part of the breadbasket of America.

This was a great project, and we had a lot of fun getting to work alongside the artists from the Art Center to bring it to life. We’re proud of how it turned out and excited to see it become another piece of public art telling Pontiac’s story.

Today was the day. Our mural for Normal was finally unveiled for the Route 66 celebration happening down in Bloomington-Normal this weekend. This one was a lot of fun to design and paint. When we met with the folks at Normal, we gave ourselves an assignment: to pretend we traveled back in time to create a billboard for Route 66, designed to promote Normal and convince travelers to stop and see what Normal has to offer. So after looking through a ton of old photos, we found two that really stood out. A picture of the Normal Theater and a photo of the very first Steak ‘n Shake. Then we came up with a catchy slogan and painted it all in a style that complimented both the theater and the diner. Lastly, we created two friendly faces to tie it all together. I went down to Normal this afternoon to do a few touchups, talk to the press, and paint the cherry on top, which we purposely waited to paint last.

Pontiac's Diaz Sign Art created a custom mural for Sprague's Super Service commemorating significant landmarks in the Town of Normal: the Normal Theater and Steak and Shake. It will be officially unveiled Friday, ahead of a 1950s-themed celebration as part of the Cruisin' through the Century Route 6...

The company may be called Mad Dog Mowing, but the owner couldn't be any nicer, so we made sure his mascot reflected the positive experience you are sure to expect when you hire them for your mowing and outdoor services.
