Clients often tell me they need to market their products or services, and often times, they start talking about the need to emphasize price and quality in their ads. While both of those are very important, when I begin planning the creative portion of their ad campaigns, I often turn to emotions. How does your product or service make someone feel? This GM advertisement does an excellent job of bringing ALLLL the feels to life. They aren't even advertising a current product or service. The auto featured is from the 1960s. But this ad brings to life an inanimate object -- a car, fercryin' out loud -- in such a way that grown men are in tears after watching this. The ad shows how autos -- GM autos -- are a right of passage, a part of the joy in our lives, even when you think they might be a part of the sorrow.

One of my favorite things to do in my work life is create brand identities. A year ago, The Write Company proudly introduced to you the new brand identity/logo we were so pleased to gift, as a pro-bono project, to Blue Water Safe Horizons, a local nonprofit that provides shelter and support services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and elder abuse. Today, we are pleased to introduce to you the new website we were able to build for the agency, along with some advertisement design that BWSH can use on an as-needed basis...all of it fully branded using the new logo and artwork/branding. Hopefully, you and those you love will never need these services, but isn't it great to know they are available in our community?

Did you know The Write Company takes on quite a number of political clients? We can help w/everything from campaign marketing strategy, creating print/online/social media advertising (including copywriting and design!), and much, much more...but it always seems to start with this: the campaign brand/logo/yard sign design/color selection/type selection. Very interesting article regarding the way all of the women running for president are changing the way political campaigns brand themselves. We're totally nerdy and into this stuff! Enjoy!

A Marketing Moment: What's your take on the Gillette ad that, once again, asks men to "be the best they can be."

Personally, we love it.

Yes, we realize that Gillette's jump onto the and band wagon is almost more than a little late to the party, but at least they got there.

We also believe, based on statistics/numbers, that Gillette KNEW it wasn't really taking any true financial "risk" when it asked its customers and potential customers, to no longer be knuckle-draggers.

They already knew the majority of their business goes to men (and women) who believe in the message put forth by the advertisement. But it was brilliant for several reasons:

1) it re-ignited a 30-year-old brand slogan from 1989;

2) late to the party or not, it tackles a social issue and helps start a nationwide social conversation regarding something very important that, quite frankly, a lot of people (both men and women) are having trouble understanding;

3) it makes use of "cause marketing" in several ways, including the fact that Gillette is donating $1 million for three years to related nonprofits/charities...lots of customers feel warm and fuzzy about doing business with companies that do this; and

4) incredibly wise use of advertising dollars...no matter how much the well-produced ad cost to make, Gillette has reaped that 100x over between the social media views, social media commentary, discussion on national news outlets ranging from hard news programs to morning talk shows, and more.

Did Gillette "really" take unknown risks when putting forth this piece? Probably not. Will they make lots of money as a result? I'm sure they knew they would.

Do I, as a consumer/white privileged female who cares about such social issues care? Nope. Sometimes, if you don't toot your own horn, no one is going to toot it for you.

You go, Gillette, you go.

The controversial Gillette campaign challenges men to be better on issues like sexual harassment and bullying. But don't mistake Gillette for a hero.

Honored to have been invited to create the fundraising collateral materials for the capital campaign for the new Mid City Nutrition Program Soup Kitchen. This invitation and fundraising packet was a part of the kickoff for the campaign this past week. Thank you so much for inviting The Write Company to be a part of helping build your dream facility that will serve so many in need in our community.
