Thank you to for sponsoring this morning's Port Orange Chamber Mix & Mingle event. We've been using their credit card processing services for number of years now and the nicest thing about it is we can reach out to a real human being (actually is far more than just that LOL) if we have any issues to deal with.

Thank you Kelly Moore, thank you Appstar Financial

All elections are important but none more so than for the City of Port Orange City Council, District 3.

Shawn M. Goepfert is the candidate voters need to elect. His background is more than impressive giving him the skills and wisdom to help move the city forward.

Yes, the upcoming election in November is important but, the August 20th local elections which also include specific bond issues and county commissioner elections is truly something that is going to impact your day-to-day living.

Please vote on August 20, and vote for Shawn M. Goepfert for City Council, District 3.......................

Another awesome job by Beach Embroidery & Screen Printing on the sleeve of our golf shirts for the Port Orange South Daytona Chamber of Commerce golf event at Spruce Creek Country Club yesterday. The team by far was the sharpest looking team there.

Huge thank you to Atlantic Marine for hosting a "Try It Before You Buy It" day at the Hammock Beach Marina. We took a ride on the 281. What a beautiful monster. Those twin 300HP engines and SeaV²® hull cut right thru any wave/wake it encountered. Sat in back next to engines and you could hardly hear them working.

This beauty is the ultimate inshore/offshore boat. It is packed with all kinds of features - State of the art digital screens, a new standard portside electric fold down platform with stowable ladder, a newly designed aft bench seat with three different configurations, tons of storage, and a head (bathroom) even I can fit in.

From fishing the shallows to the deepest offshore canyons, to riding in luxury and style to and from the sandbar, this incredibly versatile boat will not disappoint…..

Mothers Day is coming up soon. Don't just buy her flowers (that's so 1960's)-- instead get her out of the kitchen and take her to a nice dinner.

My suggestion: Bello Valentino's, New Smyrna Beach is open Mothers Day starting at 3 pm. Reservations are recommended and are going fast. Maurice is an expert at Francaise style cooking - chicken, veal, and grouper (my favorite)

And here's the coupon from Valpak of Volusia so you can save a few dollars while you are at it.

Another one bites the dust......

Nothing is more frustrating than watching potentially great local businesses fail, especially when they didn't have to. Another local eatery that had great views of the intercostal and a vast menu to pick from is now CLOSED.

We approached management several times about using Valpak of Volusia direct mail programs to reach a broader part of the local public, letting them know more about the restaurant, maybe even teeing up a great offer that would encourage them to come in. Each time they laughed at us because they were doing all kinds of social media, had great word-of-mouth, and features and location that made them unique. Well, they are now closed.

We always encourage every business to have an active, functioning website (which we can provide us not already have one), and that they need to do social media postings to reach as many as they can. But the problem with social media is you end up talking to the same people again and again and again. in addition the rates for Google and Facebook advertising are up more than 28% just this year, making them expensive. It's important that businesses understand the cost per lead when making their media choices,

With Valpak of Volusia, we are reaching 80,000 homes every month. The restaurants that advertise with us continue to do well month in and month out because they are reaching an audience of people in the $65-70k income range, who may still actually be able to afford going out to dinner occasionally.

But alas, this one never understood it

Sad to hear of the passing of an industry icon -- Ken Brock, Names and Numbers. Had the pleasure of working with him for a number years, and learned many things about the business and people during the time. Rest in peace......

We regret to announce the passing of our colleague and friend, Ken W. Brock, on December 31, 2023. This sad news weighs heavily on our hearts.

Ken W. Brock, 77, Pittsburg businessman and entrepreneur, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 31, 2023 with family by his side.
Ken was born February 4, 1946, to George and Florence (Chaplin) Brock. He was raised in Hiattville, Kansas, southwest of Fort Scott. He attended schools in Hiattville and Fort Scott and graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1964.

Ken proudly served his country in the Kansas Army National Guard.

In 1974, Ken founded Names and Numbers by purchasing 5 local telephone directories. Over the last 50 years he and his wife, Debbie, grew the company which now serves 130 markets in 18 states and 2 territories in Canada.
In addition to his passion for entrepreneurship, anyone who knew Ken knew his love for aviation. Ken was recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration as a Wright Brothers Master Pilot for having flown more than 5000 hours in his 50 plus years of flying.

Ken loved Pittsburg, Fort Scott and all of Southeast Kansas which was evident in his service and leadership to these communities. He received the Spirit of Pittsburg award in 2011 and the Rex Crowley Outstanding Partners in Progress Award (PSU) in 2016. Ken started the local Gorilla Toastmasters in Pittsburg. He served on numerous boards and advisory committees including the Kelce School of Business, University Bank, Kansas Airport Advisory Committee, Pinnacle Care and Via-Christi Advisory Board. He also spent many years on the Association of Directory Publishers Board and was a nation-wide leader in the industry. Ken was also a member of the Christ's Church of Oronogo.

Ken may best be known for his service as Chairman of the Highway 69 Association. The Association's goal is the expansion of Highway 69 to a four-lane highway from Kansas City to I-44. Working alongside Dr. Jim AuBuchon and numerous other Southeast Kansas leaders, Ken organized and advocated for the highway by making numerous trips to Topeka and Washington D.C.

Ken married Debbie Schilling on April 30, 1983. She survives of the home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Bob and daughter-in-law, Lori, of Topeka; his son Ron and daughter-in-law, Robin, of Pittsburg; and four grandchildren: Lucas Brock of Chicago, Caroline Brock of Overland Park, Evan Mason and Liam Mason of Pittsburg; and two brothers, Paul Brock of Ozark, Missouri and George Brock of Sandy, Oregon.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Delbert and Gloria Schilling.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts at Pittsburg State University with David Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 am - 6:00 pm, Friday, January 5th at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma, Kansas. The family suggest memorials to Christ in Youth, a Christian outreach based in Joplin, Missouri.

Memorials can be left at Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, PO Box 621, Arma, KS 66712, or mailed to CIY, 2201 N. Main, Joplin, MO 64801 or by visiting their website, www.ciy.com.
