Google AI Max is now controlling more of how your ad budget gets spent. The clicks you used to manually approve through keyword targeting are increasingly auto-routed by Google's AI based on signals you don't see.
What to watch:
→ Search term reports (auto-targeting can show up there)
→ Daily spend variance (AI Max can spike on "opportunity" days)
→ Conversion attribution (now blends across data-driven models)
→ Cost-per-conversion vs old benchmarks
This isn't a problem if you're checking weekly. It's a real problem if you set the campaign up 3 months ago and never looked back.
