Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Safety Festival has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 24. The event was originally scheduled for April but was postponed as a result of the statewide shutdown.

The Safety Festival, now in its 6th year showcases our local First Responders and what they are doing to keep our community safe. COVID-19 has impacted all of us. First Responders and Health Department personnel will be available to answer some of your questions.

“There is so much to do and see…we were thrilled to be there…the turnout was super…a wonderful event for the whole community…we had a fabulous time,” these are just a few of the comments from people who attended last year’s Safety Festival.

The 6th Annual Safety Festival is moving to Tradition Landing for this event. In addition to the demonstrations, touch-a-trucks, vendors, kids zone and other activities this year’s Festival will partner with the Tradition Pumpkin Patch. Up to 2000 pumpkins will be given away. And there will also be a Dance Fit Celebration to benefit the Education Foundation.

The Safety Festival kicks off at 9am and concludes at 2pm. Admission and parking are both free. Attendees will be able to meet our local First Responders including Fire Chief Nate Spera; PSL Police Chief John Bolduc; Ron Parrish, Public Safety Director; Clint Sperber, Health Officer; Wayne Gent, Superintendent of Public Schools and others. And you’ll learn about what they are doing to keep our community safe. News Anchors and reporters from WPBF TV 25 will also be onsite for photos and to answer your questions.

Kids of all ages will be able to climb on and get photos with fire trucks, bulldozers, brush trucks, police cruisers, motorcycles, helicopter and so much more.

The following are agencies planning to participate in the 6th annual Safety Festival. This list is subject to change depending on the pandemic: St. Lucie County Fire District, Port St. Lucie Police Department, Air Methods, St. Lucie Public Schools, St. Lucie County Public Safety, Emergency Management, Environmental Resources, Safer St. Lucie, Fish and Wildlife, Florida Division of Forestry, Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County, Coast Guard Auxiliary, American Red Cross, Martin Health-Cleveland Clinic, City of Port St. Lucie, St. Lucie County, Blood One, Southern Eagle Distributing, Peter W. Fort Pierce Rotary Club donates to four charities to feed the hungry during the COVID-19 crisis.

Jim Hatfield, President of the Fort Pierce Rotary Club has announced that the club has donated $1000 each to four local charities. The Fort Pierce Rotary Club voted to support charities in Fort Pierce that are on the front lines feeding the hungry during the COVID-19 crisis.
The organizations are Mustard Seed Ministries, Treasure Coast Food Bank, United Against Poverty and St Lucie County Education Foundation (for the feeding of homeless students and families supported by the Fort Pierce Women’s Club).
The club has recently established a donor advised fund managed by The Community Fund Martin - St Lucie. The Community Fund manages & distributes funds for the newly established charity called the Rotary Club of Fort Pierce Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 not for profit charitable fund.
Bruce Abernethy, a local Fort Pierce attorney and a member of the Fort Pierce Rotary Club helped establish and fund the charity. Bruce stated that “this is exactly why we established this charity…to help our community in times of need. Money will be paid out in matter of days and hand delivered to the charities by a member of the club.”
The Fort Pierce Rotary Club is part of Rotary International, one of the largest service organizations in the world. Rotary brings together local leaders to take on some of the toughest challenges in our communities. The club exchanges ideas and takes action through literacy programs, feeding the hungry, cleaning our beaches, and the creation and maintenance of Rotary Park, a public park located at Virginia Avenue and S. 23rd Street in Fort Pierce.
For information on the Fort Pierce Rotary Club and to learn how to join, contact Thom Jones, President Elect at (772) 485-4790 or [email protected]
