Let me share a little AHA moment I had while watching a TikTok from the other day.
I’ve always wondered WHY imposter syndrome is such a thing for so many of us - in particular womxn business owners.
This video gave me HUGE insight into why imposter syndrome is actually not US (who we are, what we truly think of ourselves). It’s actually OUR BRAINS doing exactly what they think they’re supposed to be doing.
Let me explain.
In this video, Star explained his take on why people can’t put a stop to anxiety and depression with thinking alone with the following explanation…
Your brain doesn’t actually understand language, YOU understand language…but you can’t say to your brain “Stop having imposter syndrome” and see results. Why? Because those words doesn’t mean anything to your brain.
Your brain’s language is BEHAVIOR.
So, when you keep yourself stuck making small moves because of imposter syndrome, your brain registers that behavior as familiar, safe, and good, and does everything in its power (including producing anxiety and depression), to keep you making those same safe, small moves.
It’s only by acknowledging your fear and making the big moves anyway that your brain is able to learn that the BEHAVIOR of making big moves isn’t dangerous, won’t kill you, and can actually bring rewards.
Imposter syndrome isn’t a sign that:
👉🏼 You’re not good enough
👉🏼 You don’t have what it takes
👉🏼 You’re not talented enough
👉🏼 You’re not smart enough
👉🏼 You can’t figure it out
👉🏼 You don’t have good ideas
👉🏼 You’re not legit
It’s a sign that your brain is recognizing you’re approaching unfamiliar territory and it’s DOING IT’S JOB of trying to keep you alive.
Thank your brain for looking out for you, and step through it.
