Happy to announce this little project for an awesome client. We created a brand direction, including logos, icons, and color scheme, for this and another sister business that will be opening in spring. Branding included color consult on the building (which turned out amazing) and finally, this phase 1 version of their new website. There's more work to do, but we're taking time to celebrate this milestone.

If bear not friend, then why friend shaped???

Friend? Maybe time to reevaluate. Seeing a bear in the wild is a special treat for any visitor to a national park. While it’s an exciting moment, it’s important to remember that bears in national parks, no matter how cute or floofy their ears look, are wild. Just like your ex, their behavior can be unpredictable. BTW, What do you call a bear without an ear? A “B.” 🐑🥁🐍

When you arrive in a park that has bears, always remember to check with the nearest visitor center or backcountry office for the latest bear safety information. Keeping your distance and not surprising bears are some of the most important things you can do to keep your pants dry. We mean safe. Most bears will avoid humans if they hear them coming. You loud. (Which can be a good thing in bear country.) Pay attention to your surroundings and make a special effort to be noticeable if you are in an area with known bear activity (Really? That hat?) or a good food source, such as berry bushes.

A couple weeks ago, we had a dream of going to see the Dandy Warhols perform tonight. Thanks to a winter storm warning* and omicron, we decided to stay in and do our traditional nosh of fondue. I hope whatever you're doing you're warm, safe, happy, or at least content. Happy new year!
*It has since passed but it's still very cold for Oregon

As a former Google user experience consultant, I learned the best way to improve rankings is to have good, quality content, or "brand authenticity". Since that time, search engines have only increased their ability to preferentially rank sites with high quality.

Spy Fu, an excellent SEO tool, qualifies this as "E-A-T: Expertise, Authority and Trustworthiness."

In addition to good organization, quality content including EAT is the best way to increase rankings, which bring more visitors to your site.

Psychography is key to reaching your audience. One thing we've preached forever is authenticity... In the context of your audience, this quote says it all: "People who have authentic connections over social media report having a largely positive view and experience of it. People who use it as a genuine way to stay in touch with others don’t report the same levels of anxiety and depression associated with its use. The reason people try to fake their way into being liked is that they confuse attention for connection—and they are not the same thing."

Human connection is an important part of recovering from trauma and thriving. Understanding how connection works and giving it authentically can help us connect to others and ourselves.

Too often, brands and content strategies get caught up in curating the perfect marketing stream and can forget many savvy audiences tune out when they perceive content streams are too promotional. Here's one case in point, after experiencing promotion exhaustion, the author made a concerted effort to ditch "influencer" accounts in favor of "slime" accounts; in other words, brain-soothing, experiential content that brings joy.
