Auxiliary onboard power management is critical when filming out in the field. We are constantly recharging drone, GoPro and camera batteries. ...and it's always important to keep the crew hydrated with a never ending supply of cold beverages from the onboard refrigerator.

This is the latest onboard auxiliary battery box for our backup rig. After experimenting with a 200ah LFP battery on the primary work truck, we realized that 200ah was overkill and that we really only need 100ah. This is because we are typically moving locations every day and the DC-DC charger will replenish the aux battery quickly while driving. On the rare occasion that we are sitting in one location for more than a couple of days, plugging in a solar panel helps top up the battery.

This system's primary components (links in comments below) are a WattCycle 100ah LifePo4 lithium battery connected to a LiTime 40a DC-DC charger that accepts input from both the alternator and a solar panel. It uses 50a Anderson plug connectors for sturdy connections. Accessories are managed by a Blue Sea fuse block. Permanent accessory connections like the fridge or camp lighting are connected with sturdy 30a Anderson connections on the side panel, while USB accessories connect through a typical USB connector on the front panel. Lastly, 8ga wire and 50a MAXI fuses are used to wire everything up cleanly to starting battery in the engine compartment.
