Print of the Week — a soft-touch silk presentation folder built for listing appointments.

Soft-touch silk lamination is worth explaining, because it is a finish you understand with your hands rather than your eyes. It gives the cover a velvety, almost suede texture that makes people handle the folder differently — slower, more carefully. It also resists fingerprints, which matters for something passed across a kitchen table.

Inside, a die-cut business card slot and two pockets holding a market analysis, a marketing plan, a pricing sheet, and a recent just-sold insert. The agent leaves it behind at the end of the appointment and it sits on the seller's counter for the days they spend deciding.

That is the actual mechanism. A seller cannot evaluate how well you will market their home — they have no way to know yet. What they can evaluate is the one piece of marketing you have already handed them.

Client Spotlight — a restaurant group was running laminated menus because reprinting felt like an expense they could avoid. Every price change meant a strip of tape or a pen correction, and after a season those menus told the guest a story nobody wanted told.

We moved them to short-run printed menus on 100lb gloss text with a satin aqueous coating — it resists fingerprints and a wipe-down, but it prints and reprints affordably enough to be treated as a consumable rather than a fixture.

The change nobody predicted was on the menu itself. Once reprinting stopped being a decision, the kitchen started actually using seasonal ingredients, running specials as real menu items instead of a chalkboard, and adjusting prices when their costs moved instead of eating the difference for six months. The print cost was the smaller number by a wide margin.

Behind the Print — painted edge cards. This is a finish most people register without ever consciously noticing it.

A painted edge card is built by bonding multiple sheets into one thick block, then painting the exposed edge a contrasting color. You end up with a 32pt card that has a bright stripe running around its perimeter — a color that only exists on the side you would never normally print.

What it really communicates is weight. The card is nearly twice as thick as a standard business card, so it does not bend in a pocket and it makes a sound when it is set down on a table. For a restaurant, a bar, a salon, or a studio, that is the point. The card is a small physical object a customer keeps, and the ones people keep are the ones that feel like they cost something to make.

We print painted edge business cards, gift cards, and reservation cards in a range of edge colors on 32pt stock. Printed in Portland, Oregon, shipped anywhere in the US with quick turnaround.

This is the last comfortable week to get year-end print into production, so we are running it again: 15% OFF your entire order with coupon code AGENT15A at checkout on store.colormagic.biz.

Use it on year-end appeal letters and reply envelopes, holiday cards, calendars, annual reports, Q1 collateral, direct mail postcards, booklets, presentation folders, banners, or anything else in the catalog.

A straight answer about timing, because we would rather you hear it now than in December: every commercial printer in the country is at capacity from late October through the middle of December. Our quick turnaround is real, but it is real in October in a way it cannot be in the first week of December. If a piece has to be in a mailbox before the holidays, this is the window.

Code AGENT15A at store.colormagic.biz. Printed in Portland, Oregon, shipped anywhere in the US.

Direct mail day, and for nonprofits this is the one that pays for the year. Roughly a third of all annual giving happens in December, and a large share of it still arrives because a letter showed up in a mailbox.

The year-end appeal has a shape that works, and it has not changed much: a personally addressed outer envelope that does not look like a mass mailing, a letter on real letterhead signed by an actual person, a reply device with a suggested gift amount already printed on it, and a business reply envelope so a donor never has to find a stamp.

The reply envelope is the piece organizations cut when a budget gets tight, and it is the worst possible thing to cut. Every extra step between deciding to give and giving is a place where somebody sets the letter down.

We print appeal letters, letterhead, reply devices, and BRE envelopes as one matched package, and we can have it in your hands in time for a first-week-of-November drop. Portland shop, mailed anywhere in the US.

Client Spotlight — a growing practice asked us for something that sounds mundane and turned out to matter a lot: a proper new-patient folder.

Before, the front desk handed every new patient a clipboard with a stack of loose forms, an insurance sheet, a privacy notice, and a practice info flyer. Forms came back out of order, one or two went missing per patient, and the staff spent real time reassembling paperwork instead of scheduling.

We printed a 6x9 presentation folder with their branding, a die-cut business card slot, and two interior pockets — one labeled for forms to complete, one for material to take home. Every insert printed to match, so a patient can tell at a glance what to fill in and what to keep.

The front desk got time back and the practice got something a patient carries out through the waiting room with a logo on it. Presentation folders, intake packets, and inserts printed in Portland, Oregon and shipped anywhere in the US. See more at store.colormagic.biz.

Print of the Week — tri-fold patient education brochures, printed for a specialty practice that was tired of writing the same explanation on the back of an appointment card.

Here is the case for print in a clinical setting, and it is a specific one. A patient who has just been given a diagnosis retains a fraction of what is said in the room. That is well documented and it is not a failure of attention — it is what happens to anyone processing unexpected news. The instructions that matter get delivered to someone who is not really listening yet.

A brochure goes home in a pocket and gets read that evening, when the patient can actually take it in, and again by a spouse or an adult child who was not at the appointment at all.

We print tri-folds on 100lb gloss or silk text, scored and folded so they open flat without cracking, in quantities that make sense for a single practice rather than a hospital system. High quality here means accurate color on clinical imagery and a fold that survives a coat pocket.

Direct mail day. This week: the tear-off postcard, which is the most underused format we print.

A tear-off card is one heavy postcard with a perforated coupon, appointment card, or reorder slip built into it. The recipient separates the tab and the tab goes somewhere — a wallet, a fridge, a corkboard, a job folder. The rest of the card gets recycled and that is fine, because the part that matters survived.

That is the whole trick. A standard postcard has to be acted on the day it arrives or it is gone. A tear-off card converts a single mailing into something with a tail on it, which is why it works so well for anything with a repeat cycle: service reminders, reorder prompts, membership renewals, seasonal appointments.

We print them on 14pt and 16pt stock with clean perforations that tear straight instead of shredding, in 6x9 or 6x11 for EDDM or on a targeted list. Designed and printed in Portland, mailed anywhere in the US with quick turnaround.

Behind the Print — akuafoil hang tags, and why a small product brand should care about them right now.

Akuafoil lays a reflective metallic layer underneath the ink, so you can put a real gold or silver shine exactly where you want it — a logo, a border, a single word — while printing full color over the top. Traditional foil stamping cannot do that. With akuafoil your product photography and your fine print stay completely normal while one element genuinely catches the light.

On a hang tag this matters more than it does almost anywhere else. A tag is the last thing between your product and a shopper's hand, and on a crowded shelf or a market table, the thing that catches light is the thing that gets picked up.

We print akuafoil hang tags on 16pt stock with drill holes, rounded corners, or custom die cuts, plus matching labels, stickers, and folding boxes so a whole product line looks like a line. Holiday retail deadlines start landing in October, so this is the right week to be thinking about it.

Client Spotlight — an organization came to us in the fall needing an annual report and fully expecting to hate the process. Their last one was a 40-page PDF that got emailed to the board, opened by maybe half of them, and never mentioned again.

We printed it instead: 32 pages, saddle-stitched, 100lb dull cover with a satin aqueous coating, 80lb dull text inside so the photography holds detail without the page glaring under conference room lighting.

What happened next is the part worth repeating. They handed a copy to every board member, every major donor, and every partner organization at their fall meeting. Six months later they were still mailing the leftovers to prospective funders, because a printed report is a thing you can leave behind on somebody's desk. The PDF version had a shelf life of one afternoon.
