🛟 When you’re up to your eyeballs in uncertainty, it’s time to pause and reassess. What do other industries do when they need a quick sales boost? They offer a discount!

Back in 2008, when HUB was fighting to stay afloat, we launched a 15% off sale, designed postcards, and mailed them to everyone we knew. It didn’t make us millionaires, but it was a way to stay top of mind and remind people we were still here, ready to work.

😂 If you know Lindsey, you know she’s got big energy and dramatic flair! 🌟 Looking back to 2008, amidst the start of the recession and the chaos of financial instability, we asked her where she was.

Her answer?– “I had heard rumblings of a recession and didn’t know what it meant. Full stop. I didn’t know what to do with the information, so I did nothing. I did the obvious thing, which was to go on a trip with a friend to Thailand. It was there, a million miles away from home, that I understood how HUB would be impacted. Clients had stopped paying their invoices, I was not going to be able to make payroll and would have to hit our line of credit. After many sleepless vacation nights and a panicked email to my finance guy, I was reassured that was literally what a LOC was for and that the recession wasn’t my fault…He let me know that many companies would fall… and I worried: Would this be the year HUB dies?

I imagined shutting it all down—packing up every box. But at the end of that daymare, I realized I hadn’t done EVERYTHING I could. I had one more email to write and one more dream client to land…I never wanted to look back and wonder if I had worked a little harder would have made a difference.

The answer is YES. It 100% made a difference. We made some really hard decisions. We went from a team of 10 to 4 overnight…somehow finding jobs for most of the team. We made it through year 4, fully registering what a recession was and it’s rippling impact. ” 💪✨

🔥 In 2007, Abby Wambach was on fire! 🔥

As one of the top scorers for the U.S. national soccer team, her incredible performance earned her the title of U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year. Abby and her team clinched Olympic gold in 2004 and again in 2012. But it wasn’t just about her stats and medals—her leadership, work ethic, and ability to inspire made a huge impact on and off the field. Abby became an icon for women breaking barriers and challenging gender stereotypes, empowering young girls to chase their athletic dreams. As a women-led company, this resonates deeply with us, so it was a no-brainer to say yes to this project when it was offered to us. 💪✨

Our first office was a whopping 800 sqft, with 2 parking spots located in the Pearl District of Portland, OR, and it was a fit! It was cozy yet it was the perfect starting point and place for HUB to begin to unfold into who we are today. 🌟

Thinking outside the box. 🚀

Sometimes, clients ask for what they want, but it might not always be the best fit for their goals. That’s where a trusting relationship comes in—turning obstacles into great conversations and finding creative solutions becomes an adventure!

For this project, we needed a fun and efficient way to deliver sports equipment to kids. Our solution? A sport-fitted ice cream cart! 🍦 It made the process enjoyable for both the staff and the kids.

Keep networking! 👯‍♂️

We won this project from a dear friend and marketing manager within our network at Washington Square Mall. She had a clear vision and needed it done FAST. We quickly organized an impromptu photoshoot, enlisted a photographer pal for color correction, brought the vision to life, and rolled it out.

We’ve learned that you never know where the next job might come from or what conversation could ignite a need in someone. Getting clear on what we do and communicating it effectively has been crucial in attracting a wide range of opportunities over the years. Refining this skill has allowed us to consistently spark interest and invite an abundance of projects. You never know when or how a single word might light the fuse for something big. 🧨
