How long do you plan to stay?
🏡 Staying 10+ years? Buying is usually the smarter move.
✔️ Monthly payments stay stable
✔️ You’re building equity
✔️ Your home will likely increase in value, boosting your net worth
🔑 Moving in 5 years or less? Renting might be the better choice.
❌ Selling too soon means paying closing costs (realtor fees, escrow, transfer taxes, etc.), which can eat into any profit.
❌ Let’s say you’ll stay for 3 years. This may not be enough time for your home’s value to increase significantly.
👉 The reality:
✔️ Renting = Flexibility & no maintenance worries, but your rent can increase yearly, and you’re building your landlord’s wealth, not yours.
✔️ Buying = One of the best ways to build equity, but only if you’re in it for the long haul.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but knowing your timeline makes the decision clearer.
Long-term? Buy.
Short-term? Rent.
