An unexpected gift to come out of our 48HR Horror/Sci-Fi weekend this year wasn’t from the screen.

Photographer Chris Rentzel volunteered his time to follow our team across multiple locations, through the long hours, organized chaos, creative breakthroughs, and sleep-deprived laughter that make the 48 Hour Film Project such a unique experience. What came from that effort is a beautiful physical behind-the-scenes book filled with moments many of us might have otherwise forgotten.

Nobody is making money from this. Chris simply wanted cast, crew, friends, family, and fellow 48HR enthusiasts to have the option of a real keepsake from the weekend. The books are available at cost through his website (see link in bio).

In a world where so much of our work disappears into feeds and online servers, there’s something really special about being able to hold these memories in your hands.

Thank you, Chris, for your generosity, your eye for storytelling, and for preserving this little slice of 48HR history for all of us on team Radical Softies!

Our film, The Conjuring Door, hopes to make the finals to be screened again at but if not, we’ll continue to find audiences for it and our Radical Softies team is already gearing up to enter a “one-shot” short film for the summer 48HR Project that includes all genres.

What a lineup tonight at RISE! Brought to you by and . So grateful to earn 3rd place as editor of our micro doc Salt And Pepper with Cheryl Willis as producer and director. Huge congrats to everyone who screened and it was so nice seeing a few familiar faces. created the shot used in my logo, so it was fun to surprise him with that 🎞️😉

Please also check out the 1st place film There’s A Devil Inside Me by and the 2nd place film Help Solve A Murder by Mary Matthews, and . Both are powerful pieces rooted in creativity and community. Help Solve A Murder invites us to take concrete steps here in Portland as we raise awareness around gun violence and the disproportionate and unbalanced justice faced by underserved communities. It is a film we should all sit with.

Also go follow the creators of Leaders of Men by , Cockroach by , Controlling The Narrative by , House On Fire by and Rash by . Incredible work across the board. Truly one of the best screening blocks I have ever attended, let alone been part of.

As a non binary person in film, who believes that patriarchal, light skinned stories, often about cis relationships, are as tired as billionaire board meetings, I am thrilled to see real films and real voices breaking into the industry if not creating their own industry when a larger one no longer serves them. I said what I said.
