Behind the scenes of “The Conjuring Door” our film for this year’s 48HR Horror / Sci-Fi competition. This year we went full tilt! (Link in bio for tickets - Hollywood Theatre - Sunday at 9:30pm)
As team leader and editor, it’s a constant balance not to step on toes while pushing boundaries toward something ambitious. Making a film at this level in 48 hours takes serious stamina, precision, confidence, determination, and the kind of resilience that can look a little unhinged from the outside. But we did it, and did it well! Congrats team!
Huge thank you to my cast and crew for your patience, grace, and willingness to keep raising the bar. It’s fu***ng wild to attempt work at this caliber on that timeline, but that’s what makes it exciting. A citywide challenge that can lead to global competition is no small thing. Respect to every team out there still recovering today!
The resulting film? The Conjuring Door is absolutely sick. Fun, emotional, and reaching up to stay alive against all odds, even if there are some casualties. The writing by cinematography by score by and performances by and all land so well and that’s because our cast and crew freaking brought it!
This was my 6th 48 in 5 years. The full genre competition this summer will be my last run at trying to reach Cannes through this festival. My plan: produce the entire 7-minute film in one shot. We’ll see who’s wild enough to join that mission.
Most of all, our team, Radical Softies (new and old members alike) has become a real community of filmmakers and creatives who believe in challenging nonsense. Not always by fighting head-on, but by making bold, strange, beautiful things that keep wonder and wild abandon alive. Special thanks to for taking some great BTS along with some additional shots by cast and crew!
