Community Fisheries Network

Community Fisheries Network We are a national network of community-based fishermen and fishing organizations that have joined together to address common challenges.

The Community Fisheries Network (CFN) formed in response to the needs of small-boat fishermen and their communities. We work to increase the long-term sustainability of commercial fishing communities and the marine ecosystems upon which we depend. We do this through rapidly advancing the sharing of experiences and lessons learned, sustainability standards and tools for catch accountability, busine

ss methods, collaborative branding and marketing, and cooperative efforts on regional and national fisheries policy. We are a cooperative, peer-to-peer learning network of 13 community fishing organizations in Alaska, California, Maine, Massachusetts, Oregon, and Washington. In addition to our members, the Community Fisheries Network has three supporting supporting members, including the Community Development Partnership, Ecotrust, and the Island Institute.

Locals call it the pez diablo, or devil fish, and long assumed it was poisonous. When fishermen bring up their nets, they are almost full of the squiggly, ...

The AP investigation on Sea to Table has created a firestorm in the press this week. The story raises many issues that many of us are intimately familiar with in the seafood industry. What's your take on the story? Also stay tuned for news on future webinar hosted by groups like LocalCatch.org on this topic.

Even after winter storms left East Coast harbors thick with ice, some of the country’s top chefs and trendy restaurants were offering sushi-grade tuna supposedly pulled in fresh off the coast of New York.
