PSA: Your 'ruined' family photos aren't necessarily doomed. Here is a particularly dramatic restoration I recently completed for a close friend of two matriarchs in her family. 🥰 Swipe to see the restored version and swipe to the last slide to see how tiny the original was! It's amazing how much a high resolution scan and some patience in Photoshop can do.

This month MPW celebrated 6 months of Kat Miller joining us in the studio! 🎉 🙌🏼 For those that haven't met Kat ( + www.katmillerphoto.com) she started with us back in March and has since thoughtfully mastered many different elements of the myriad of services that we offer here at MPW. Kat's background includes a BFA in fine art photography from MECA+D, years of working with large format film + digital in her personal artistic practice, experience working in galleries both at Speedwell and as co-director of 82 Parris here in Portland, and most recently as an archivist with the Maine state archives in Augusta! So much lovely experience!

Starting in mid October, Kat will running the show when I am unable to be here (mostly Saturdays!). With her help I should be able to offer more consistency through the cold and flu season and spend more time with my daughter Edie (when she is sick and when she is well!). I am sooo lucky to have Kat's help in this new phase of life as a parent + small biz owner!

For those that may have noticed and may be wondering: yes that is a giant print of a piglet above Kat's left shoulder (slide 2 for the detail). Diana the piglet has been our studio mascot since printing an order of larger than life prints for Darrowby Farm Sanctuary in May. So it's very fitting that Diana be photobombing Kat in this photo!

Diana ended up on our wall because of a printing imperfection called banding (when there are subtle lines in the print caused by clogged nozzles in the printer). As a result the print was not quite good enough to sell but definitely good enough to bring us joy everyday!

Some recent prints for local photographer Nanette Faye Gordon for her show The Harpswell Collective In The Empowered Portrait Project Nanette photographed women over 50 who were making an intentional decision to embrace themselves wholly in the second half of life. In the show, each portrait is paired with a written piece created by the subject that reflects on embracing visibility, vulnerability, and strength as a woman over 50.

I had the pleasure of helping Nanette reprint a few of these that got damaged in the process of getting ready for the show and it was such a pleasure to work with these lovely ladies! Nanette just has the most calming, open energy and it really comes across in these portraits.

For those that might be interested, Nanette will also be offering two one day workshop intensives this Saturday the 26th or next Saturday the 3rd that will offer a similar experience to the original project. This time, women participating will photograph each other and work collaboratively on the reflection part of the process. Find more info on those workshops on Nanette's page Nanette Gordon

One week until Nina Fuller's (Nina Fuller + www.ninafullerphotography.com) next opening at the Portland Art Gallery! This image was an easy favorite of mine for the show. Go see it in person at the opening next Thursday the 3rd at 5 pm!

Also teeny tiny flex on how casually I can handle these 38 x 38" prints. 💪🏼 Always makes me think about my time in art school learning to handle large format silver gelatin prints in the dark room. Compared to handling a floppy, wet fiber paper print in the dark this is really nothing!

This shot from Jared Lank was a real dream to print on the Hahnemuhle Photo Rag. + www.jaredlank.com Created for an upcoming exhibition at the Portland Museum of Art featuring indigenous artists in Maine--details on that TBA. In the meantime, you absolutely can go to the PMA and see Jared's film Bay of Herons which is on view until November 1st!

We are so happy to be working with new client Lisa DiFranza! + www.lisadifranza.com Lisa came to us to help her in producing prints for Art in the Park and we quickly fell in love her with imaginative and fun painting style. Find Lisa and so many other amazing Maine artists at Art in the Park tomorrow! 9 am to 4 pm at Mill Creek Park in South Portland (rain or shine!).

Just over a month until Nina Fuller's ( + www.ninafullerphotography.com) next opening at the Portland Art Gallery! Nina and I have been absolutely giddy looking over her images in preparation. It's always such a pleasure to see how excited Nina gets about new work. 💜 ✨ 🐑 Photography is a magical thing, y'all. A recent reproduction for a client featuring his parents and grandparents in the reflection of his father's Buick hub cap. Not sure of the exact age of the original print, but the image itself made for a great feature print at 24 x 30" for this client's dining room. 👌

Two truly 💥strong💥 feature images for Heather Boody Wasklewicz's upcoming show 'Strange Roots'. 🙌 This was my second time printing a full body of work for Heather and it was so satisfying to see what a powerful group of images she was able to make (again!). 'Strange Roots' will be hanging at Edison Studio on Monhegan Island July 22nd thru August 9th. If you happen to be planning a trip to Monhegan or feel like making an excuse to, I highly recommend checking it out!
