The United States has imported 3.4 billion pounds of beef through July this year, compared to 2.6 billion pounds during the same period last year. In 2024, total beef imports reached a record-breaking 4.6 billion pounds—the first time in history that U.S. imports exceeded 4 billion pounds in a single year.
Since 1989, the United States has imported 106.2 billion pounds of beef. Over that time, the U.S. has averaged 2.86 billion pounds of beef imports annually. The top sources of imported beef have been Australia, followed by Canada, New Zealand, Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Nicaragua. Notably, the U.S. has imported 3.26 billion pounds of beef from Argentina alone during that period.
