Today’s Wednesday Word comes to us from Dean Hulce - SIGNED BY THE KING.
2 Corinthians 1:21-22: And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
A friend handed me two small pieces of wood and told me to take care of them because someday they will be worth something. I looked them over and knew what they were right away. I could have shown them to ten other people, and I would bet nine out of ten would have had no idea what they were. One piece was about 1” x 1.5” x 3” and the other was 1/2” x 3/4” x 3”. They could fit in the palm of my hand. On the bottom of the bigger piece was a signature that read Neil Cost.
The wood itself wasn’t worth more than a few cents at the time. The average person wouldn’t have given me $1 for both pieces of wood. But to the one person who knew what I had and recognized the signature, it was worth a lot. In fact, a couple of years later I sold those two little pieces of wood for just under $1000.
The value wasn’t in the wood that was only plain old cedar. It wasn’t in the sound quality; I have dozens of calls that sound better. The value of this little 2-piece turkey call was whose name was placed on it. Neil Cost was known to many as the “King of turkey call makers” and it was his signature that made the call so valuable.
What a great illustration of the value of a life saved by Jesus Christ. Our true value is found in the one that created and then saves us. When we’ve given our life over to Jesus Christ, we become a part of His family and we share in His glory. We’ve been redeemed by the true King of Kings. When this happens, we go from having little value, to someone of great value. We are the child of the King. We are valuable enough that the one true and loving God would send His only Son to die for us.
Almost everything Neil Cost signed has become very valuable. I have another call signed by Neil that is worth around $3,000. Again, they are good calls, but not the best. But the moment the signature was put on, it became extremely valuable.
The great news for someone with Christ’s signature on them is that once we come to Him and He has placed His signature on us… it never, EVER fades or goes away. Once He’s sealed us for eternal redemption, our total value is through Him. Think about that for just a minute. We have been adopted and sealed as the very sons and daughters of the One True God. And nothing or no one can change that. WOW!
The old hymn, “THE FAMILY OF GOD” tells the story of the value of one that knows Jesus.
“From the door of an orphanage to the house of the King,
No longer an outcast, a new song I sing.
From rags unto riches, from the weak to the strong,
I'm not worthy to be here, but praise God I belong!
I'm so glad I'm a part of the Family of God,
I've been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His Blood!
Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod,
For I'm part of the family, The Family of God.”
Praise God if you have His signature on your life. Your value is now priceless.
