Proxy Vs. Metaphor: How To Get Your Visuals To Say What You Want

Companies love to use metaphors and simile in their ads:

“Using our shampoo is like a dance party on your head, where the DJ is 12 vitamins and minerals.”

They’re fun but they risk confusion.

They’re asking the viewer to solve a puzzle of what they mean in their head.

And a confused customer is an unconvinced customer.

Use proxies instead.

A p**ping unicorn IN PLACE of a p**ping human to show what good p**ping looks like.

The viewer doesn’t have to juggle meaning in their head.

Unicorn p**p good. You can p**p good too.

I remember writing my first Harmon Brothers script.

I never worked so long on something that flopped so hard.

I spent weeks concepting, researching, and joke writing. It had to be perfect.

I wrote and rewrote so many times, it could have been a screenplay.

I even performed it in front of a live audience to make sure the jokes were landing.

“I don’t think it’s a good fit for our brand.”

I wrote my second Harmon Brothers script in 3 hours.

It was chosen, produced, and completely changed the trajectory of my writing career.

This request is a little unusual. We are seeking feedback for a brand/logo mark under development. It's for a hard water treatment/septic clean-out product called Hard Water Hero. It's made in Idaho.
