Amazing people! Both legally blind, they just completed their tandem bike ride from Argentina to Deadhorse Alaska. Raising awareness for the blind all along the way. So proud to call these two my friends. Congrats Tauru Chaw and Christiana Bruchok of Two Blind to Ride, you two are a true inspiration to everyone you meet to go for it and live life to the fullest. Cheers to you for such a great accomplishment! The spirit of adventure rides on!

A very unique way to photograph the fireworks!!

To my fellow US citizens, I hope you had a fantastic Independence Day. Not much better than watching fireworks with friends and family on a warm summer's night. Fireworks are always fun to photograph, but this year I experimented with an abstract technique that I learned from the blog of Portland photographer Gregg Kerber. This is one of those "cross your fingers" techniques because you don't have much control. For these I set my aperture at f/9 and my shutter speed at about 1 second and then zoomed in on the area where the fireworks were bursting. Next comes the tricky part. Start with the focus ring completely out of focus. When the fireworks come into frame and explode, press the shutter release and then rotate the focus ring from out-of-focus to in-focus during the 1 second exposure time. I was able to get one good image for every five or ten I took. The resulting abstract, psychedelic images resembling flowers or anemones are a lot of fun.
