Open Call: Putnam County Sheriff’s Volunteer Mounted Patrol and Search Team

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is exploring the formation of an all-volunteer Mounted Patrol and Search Team. The Sheriff’s Office has discussed internally (The Sheriff) the many benefits of mounted units, including enhanced search capabilities, patrol support at public events, and positive community engagement. Earlier this year, during the search for a missing person in Putnam County, we experienced limitations due to the absence of these resources.

Since that time, two Putnam County residents have stepped forward with a proposal to establish a Sheriff’s Posse. While this concept may be new to our area, it has a long-standing history in law enforcement. With this in mind, an organizational meeting has been scheduled.

Meeting Details:
Date: Friday, January 2, 2026
Time: 1:00 p.m.
Location: Putnam County 911 Dispatch Center
1600 West 225 South, Greencastle, Indiana

Individuals interested in discussing participation in this team are encouraged to attend or to send a representative to obtain informational materials and take part in the discussion. For those unable to attend, information may be provided after the meeting upon request by emailing [email protected].

Basic Requirements Include:
• Ownership of a riding horse and trailer
• Ability to pass a background check with references
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Must not be a prohibited person under firearm ownership laws
• Willingness to sign waivers and assume personal risk

Please share this information with Putnam County friends and family who may be interested in serving and supporting our community.
We hope you can join us for our first organizational meeting on January 2, 2026.

HOLIDAY SCAM ALERT

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has experienced a sharp increase of reports of scam attacks this holiday season. While these schemes occur year-round, recent reports show a growing number of community members subject to increasingly sophisticated tactics. The MCSO warns that callers are impersonating law enforcement and claiming that potential victims have failed to appear for jury duty, have an outstanding criminal warrant, or owe immediate payment to avoid arrest. In some cases, victims are being instructed to appear in person at the Community Justice Campus as part of the deception. These telephone calls have escalated in frequency ahead of the holidays.

“These fraudulent calls are highly convincing,” said Executive Officer Kelvis Williams. “Scammers are using official-sounding language, spoofed telephone numbers, and intimidation tactics to pressure people into paying immediately. They are even using real deputy’s names. It is critical that the public know that law enforcement will NEVER demand payment over the telephone, and certainly will not demand payment in the form of gift cards or cryptocurrency nor through payment apps and wire transfers.”

How to verify the legitimacy of telephone calls:

The Sheriff’s Office does contact individuals – generally through certified mail or in-person service – regarding tax warrants. If you owe a payment for a tax warrant, you can verify the legitimacy by calling the MCSO Judicial Enforcement Division at 317-327-2448.
If a telephone caller claims any of the following, it is highly likely to be a scam:
• You failed to appear for jury duty
• You have a criminal arrest warrant
• You must pay a bond or a fine immediately
• A loved one has been arrested

Citizens should independently verify information before responding or engaging with the telephone caller.

Helpful verification links will be pasted in the comments.

Residents are encouraged to never share their personal information over the telephone or online unless they have verified the source. If you are ever unsure of whether the call you are getting is legitimate, you may reach out to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for clarification.

GUILTY! Continued prayers for this beautiful young lady, who didnt deserve this, and her family. I would also like to add that I think that we need to have prosecutors with balls. No plea agreements that drop charges for a lesser "easy win". Just so you have a better "conviction rate". They should put this in front of a jury and let the charges ride. No Charges Should Be Dropped On Violent S*xual Crimes!! The charges need to follow him for the rest of his pothetic life!

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on the whereabouts of Andre A. Richardson, who is wanted for Failure to Register as a S*x or Violent Offender under cause number 49D31-2509-F5-027503.

Richardson was convicted of Child Molesting on July 11, 2006, in Marion County, Indiana (cause number 49G03-0507-FA-120764). He is classified as a S*xually Violent Predator.

Andre Richardson is a 41-year-old Black male. He is 5’3” tall, weighs approximately 186 pounds, and has brown eyes. He is described as having bald or black hair. His date of birth is April 24, 1984.

If you have any information on his location, please contact law enforcement or call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477). Tips can be submitted anonymously. Alternatively, Mr. Richardson can call 317-327-SAFE (7233) to turn himself in.

🚨Every week, the MCSO features a non-compliant s*x offender, and we often receive questions about why they aren’t already registered. The people featured on the Monday Morning Roundup were registered, but are now in violation of their registration requirements. These requirements are set by state law. They must also report changes like a new address, job, or vehicle. If they fail to do so, a warrant is issued, and they are considered non-compliant. The Marion County Sheriff's Office has a zero-tolerance policy for s*x offenders.
