🌟 Beautiful Morning of Inspiration at BORN Toastmasters! 🌟 10/17/25

Some mornings simply glow with energy — and this week’s BORN Toastmasters meeting was one of them!
Ed Sansbury led us as our Sir Toastmaster, welcoming everyone with humor and heart, setting the stage for a session filled with stories that touched both the mind and the soul.

💼 Erin Edgar – “Dear Business, We Need to Talk”
Erin took us on a heartfelt journey, reminding us that running a business is much like nurturing a relationship. It needs care, communication, and time. She shared three beautiful lessons:
1️⃣ Build a strong relationship with your business,
2️⃣ Communicate clearly and pivot when needed, and
3️⃣ Give it the quality time it deserves.
Her message resonated deeply — success doesn’t bloom overnight; it grows when we truly listen to what our business needs.

🎭 Ed Sansbury – Lessons from the Stage
Ed brought laughter and wisdom through a story from his theatre days — including a comical (and slightly risky!) encounter with an A-frame ladder. Behind the humor was a powerful truth: helping others can reveal our purpose. His story reminded us that sometimes the small acts of support we offer others help us find clarity in our own path.

💎 Mary Chen, M.S. CGBP – “The Diamond Rule: Treat Yourself as Your Best Friend”
Mary’s speech was a gem — raw, heartfelt, and inspiring. She opened up about growing up with self-doubt and the pressure of comparison. Her “Diamond Rule” encouraged us to:
1️⃣ Forgive yourself,
2️⃣ Accept who you are, and
3️⃣ Believe in yourself and shine!.
When we do, she said, we find the diamond within — YOU. It was a powerful reminder that kindness to us is the first step to true confidence.

As the meeting ended, one thing was clear: each story, in its own way, reminded us to nurture what matters most — our dreams, our purpose, and our self-belief.

🌟 Here’s to mornings like these — where stories connect us, courage grows, and every word spoken helps someone else find their voice.

🌟 Another inspiring session at BORN Toastmasters! 🌟 10/10/25

This week’s meeting was filled with energy, insight, and powerful storytelling. Rita Lewis led us gracefully as Madam Toastmaster, guiding us through an afternoon of reflection, growth, and connection.

🎤 Ishy Shah took us on a journey through her recent travels to the UAE and Saudi Arabia. She spoke about the beauty of diverse cultures, breathtaking architecture, and the warmth of human connection. But more than that, she shared how travel opened her mind and spirit — a reminder that adventure can also be a path to self-discovery.
“Travel doesn’t just show us the world, it helps us find ourselves.” ✨

🎤 Kathy Crowley delivered a moving speech titled “When Did Your Eyes Open?” Drawing from her work as a probation officer, she shed light on the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals and the emotional resilience required to serve them. Her message was clear — some experiences open our eyes in ways that forever change us.
“There are things you can’t unsee or unhear — and that’s when true awareness begins.” 💡

🎤 Joy Carter inspired us with “How Whistling Can Make You a Better Leader.” A creative and nostalgic reflection on childhood, she showed how learning to whistle as a kid became a metaphor for leadership: persistence, adapting under pressure, and finding your own voice even when others seem ahead.
“Leadership, like whistling, is about tuning into your own rhythm — and helping others find theirs.” 🎶

Each speaker reminded us that growth often begins with curiosity, courage, and a willingness to reflect on both our past and present.

💬 Whether it’s travel, service, or childhood lessons, there's power in the stories we carry — and even more in the ones we share.

Looking forward to the next session and more voices that inspire! 🚀

🔥 Born Toastmasters On Fire today! 🔥
The room was buzzing with inspiration as Chris Sauls opened the session and passed the baton to Joy Carter our empowering Madam Toastmaster of the week. 9/12/25

🎤 First up was Norman Wood , delivering a powerful preview of his upcoming keynote for the North Carolina Project Managers Institute.
Titled “If you want to save the planet, we must plan it!” — his message resonated deeply. He highlighted the "Triple Bottom Line":
✨ Time – Manage it wisely
🌱 Talent – Nurture and retain it
💎 Treasure – Invest in people first, and the results will follow

Norm reminded us that when we empower people through growth and purposeful planning, success becomes a natural outcome. 🙌

💡 Then came Chris Sauls , equipping us with golden tips for a glitch-free speech. From tech hiccups to screen mishaps, we've all been there. Chris emphasized the power of preparation:
🔌 Know the room
💻 Test your tech
📍 Plan ahead

A great reminder that smooth delivery is no accident—it’s a result of intention, attention, and action.

This session was a masterclass in leadership, preparation, and purpose.
Whether you're speaking to save the planet or just to save your slides—plan it, prep it, and lead with heart. 💙

🔥 Creativity, Connection, and the Rise of AI – A Morning of Powerful Speeches at Toastmasters 🔥 9/5/25

This week’s Born Toastmasters meeting was a vivid reminder of how storytelling, self-awareness, and technology intersect in our ever-evolving world.

🎤 Mary Chen, M.S. CGBP opened with a thought-provoking perspective on AI. She reminded us that while AI is a powerful tool, it lacks the emotional intelligence, cultural nuance, and lived human experience needed for sound decision-making. “AI can assist,” she said, “but it should never replace human judgment.” A timely message as we all learn to navigate this brave new digital world with both caution and curiosity.

💡 Joy Carter followed with her speech “The Beginning of Concept,” exploring the many hats we wear daily—leader, organizer, caregiver, professional. The dysfunction begins when we ignore our inner voice. We must collaborate with ourselves, stay curious, and lead from a place of presence, not pressure. A powerful reminder that self-leadership reflects outward and can transform teams and homes alike.

❤️ Ed Sansbury closed the prepared speeches with a moving tribute to his mother. Sharing childhood stories of her strength, care, and unwavering presence, he reminded us of the quiet leaders who shape us—the ones who lead with love, not titles. His heartfelt delivery touched every soul in the room.

🤖 To wrap it up, David R. Lindquist brought energy and fun with AI-themed Table Topics, cleverly tying together the day’s messages of common sense, collaboration, and caring.

Whether it was about how we interact with machines or how we listen to ourselves and each other, every speech echoed one theme:

🌟 Real intelligence is emotional. Real leadership is human. 🌟

Grateful to be part of a community that speaks with courage, listens with empathy, and grows with purpose.

filled with positive vibes, laughter, and warmth – a true sanctuary where everyone feels safe, seen, and inspired. 8/15/25

This week, our Sir Toastmaster Peter Agiovlassitis
Set the tone with his vibrant energy and heartfelt welcome. The room came alive with anticipation for what was to unfold.

🎤 Norman Wood kicked off the speeches with a compelling leadership talk focused on the costs of turnover and onboarding. His insights into training leaders to better equip their teams reminded us that smart onboarding is not just HR—it’s strategy. Powerful message, Norm!

🎥 Francesca Kober Sauls followed with the next chapter in her series on the 5 core functions of business. She shared a welcome video she’s developing for her website, highlighting what it truly takes to run a successful business. Her clarity and focus are paving the way for future entrepreneurs. Well done, Francesca!

💬 Then came Mary Chen, M.S. CGBP , who moved us deeply with her speech: “Treat yourself the way you would treat your best friend.”Drawing from personal experience, she opened our eyes to how critical our inner dialogue can be—especially in moments of failure or doubt.
She offered 3 powerful practices to reconnect with ourselves:

Self-affirmations – forgive, reflect, and journal.
Listen to your heart – your instincts are wiser than you think.
Compassion – silence the inner critic and speak with love.
Mary’s vulnerability and wisdom reminded us that self-kindness is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. Truly inspiring!

🎯 The session wrapped up with David R Lindquist
leading our Table Topics with his usual charm and thought-provoking prompts, giving everyone a chance to shine.

🔥 BORN Toastmasters was on fire today—filled with energy, inspiration, and powerful storytelling! 8/22/25

As Sir Toastmaster, Norman Wood set the tone with purpose and poise. Then came a trio of thought-provoking speeches that reminded us why communication is one of the most powerful tools we have as leaders and changemakers.

🎤 Norman Wood kicked off with a continuation of his keynote for the upcoming Project Managers Institute Conference. With the bold line, “If you want to save the planet, we must plan it,” he challenged us to think the amount of food that is wasted in the food industry —and how leadership can start with small, meaningful changes. His call to action?
👉 “Take what you want, eat what you take.”
A reminder that leadership is rooted in responsibility and service.

🎤 Joy Carter followed with “It’s not you, it’s me!”—a witty and insightful speech on personal branding. She pushed us to answer the age-old question not with a job title, but with clarity and impact. When people think of you, what do they remember?
💡 Don’t be forgettable. Be memorable. Joy’s creative stories showed us how.

🎤 Mary Chen, M.S. CGBP shared a deeply moving intro to her podcast: “The Immigration Entrepreneur Spirit.” She highlighted how immigrants fuel innovation, founding some of the world’s most successful companies. As an immigrant and entrepreneur, herself, she reminded us that diversity isn’t just a buzzword—it’s the backbone of a thriving society.
🧩 “Each puzzle piece fits perfectly into a society built on diverse perspectives.”

🎯 We closed with David R Lindquist who brought energy and quick thinking to the table topics session—leaving us all smiling and inspired.

This meeting was a perfect example of how stories shape action. From reducing waste to owning your personal brand to celebrating immigrant voices—we heard it all.

💬 What story are you telling this week?

🔥 Born Toastmasters was on fire this week 8/29/25!
🔥David R Lindquist this week Sir Toastmaster!
What an incredible session filled with transformation, courage, and heartfelt connection. Here's a powerful recap of the wisdom our amazing speakers shared:

🌟 Joy Carter kicked us off with “Strategic Shifting” – a game-changing reminder that sometimes, the only thing standing in our way is fear. Her mantra? “Do it afraid.” When we take action, we move the fear out of our bodies and into momentum. Strategic Shifting is more than a mindset—it’s a movement toward purpose, power, and possibility. Joy, you brought your sunshine once again!

🖋️ Rita Lewis gave us a taste of her upcoming workshop with “Shadow Writing.” She shared her deeply personal journey through writer’s block and emotional healing, and how giving herself space to not write actually opened the door to her creativity. Her 5 tools for breakthrough are gold:
➡️Just be
➡️Water your ideas
➡️Journal—even when it’s hard
➡️Play with the process
➡️Get help
This was a soul-stirring session on giving ourselves grace and trusting the creative flow. Can’t wait for the full workshop, Rita!

🏡 Erin Edgar took the stage with “Estate Planning”—a loving and courageous look at what happens when we don’t have a plan for those we love. She showed us that estate planning isn’t about paperwork—it’s about peace of mind. She broke it down into 3 essential pillars:
➡️A Will – clarity on who gets what
➡️Important Documents – decisions while we’re alive
➡️Healthcare Planning – our wishes, honored
Erin reminded us that leadership isn’t just on the stage—it’s in how we prepare for the unexpected with heart and integrity.

🎤 Finally, Ed Sansbury wrapped us up with a beautiful reminder of why we show up to Toastmasters:
✅ Connection
✅ Camaraderie
✅ Confidence
✅ Leadership
✅ A safe space to grow

BORN is more than a club—it’s a community of courageous communicators becoming better, bolder, and braver together. 🌱

Let’s keep rising. Let’s keep speaking.🎤
Let’s keep going, BORNIANS! 🙌

What an incredible week of growth, learning, and inspiration at BORN Toastmasters
8/1/25

Ed Sansbury set the tone with a warm welcome before passing the baton to our Toastmaster of the week, David R. Lindquist who led us through a session packed with energy and insight.

🎤 Speaker 1: Chris Sauls delivered a powerful and thought-provoking speech titled “Fear and Technology.”
Chris took us on a historical journey—starting with the fear of early trains going 30 mph (imagine that!)—to today's anxieties around AI. He masterfully unpacked the psychology behind our fears: existential, social, economic, moral, and fear of losing control.

From the Industrial Revolution to the Atomic Age to the era of AI, Chris reminded us that fear has always accompanied innovation. But he left us with a powerful message: understanding fear helps us separate rational caution from paralyzing inaction. A timely reminder in this age of rapid change.

🔥 Chris, your insights were eye-opening. Keep sharing—we’re learning so much from your perspective!

🎤 Speaker 2: Peter Agiovlassitis, DTM inspired us with his journey to the TEDx stage in his talk, “How I Landed TEDx and How You Can Too.”
Peter peeled back the curtain on the TEDx world, sharing how he spoke at TEDx Apex and offering practical steps for those with a message to share. He talked about the mission of TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) and how TEDx brings those values to local communities.

His actionable tips were gold:
✅ Understand the heart of a TEDx talk
✅ Apply to less competitive events
✅ Build relationships with curators and stay persistent

Peter’s journey was a powerful reminder that your voice matters—and with clarity, networking, and purpose, you can take the TEDx stage too.

🌟 We are so inspired by both Chris and Peter—your courage to speak, to challenge ideas, and to empower others sets the tone for all of us.

Here’s to more voices rising, more fears faced, and more dreams spoken into reality.

Her resilience and journey into a fulfilling career in technology inspired us all.

A morning of meaningful conversations at BORN Toastmasters ! Ed Sansbury welcomed the members and introduced Rita Lewis as Madam Toastmasters held week of 7/25

There’s something powerful about starting the day surrounded by people committed to growth, leadership, and lifting others up. This week's lineup of speakers delivered not only insight, but inspiration that stays with you long after the meeting ends.

🎙 Norman Wood opened our minds with a powerful continuation of his leadership series. In today’s fast-moving world, organizations are feeling the pain of high turnover and undertrained managers. Norm reminded us that leadership is more than a title—it’s a choice in how we show up. He compared fear-based leadership, where control rules, with love-based leadership, where people thrive. His advice was simple yet profound: “Listen. Learn. Let them do their job.” When people are trusted, they rise.

🎙 Ishy Shah followed with a talk that truly lit up the room. She shared how mentoring those early in their careers can create a domino effect of confidence and empowerment. One of her mentees recently reflected on how Toastmasters helped them grow into their professional voice—and it’s now inspiring others to do the same. Ishy is a testament to what happens when you grow and bring others along with you.

🎙 Peter Agiovlassitis, DTM delivered a timely and thoughtful practice round of his upcoming speech, “Bridging the Gap,” which he'll present at the Chamber of Commerce. He spoke to the heart of multi-generational workplaces and offered three keys to leading across age groups:
1️⃣ Awareness – Understand generational perspectives through mentorship.
2️⃣ Communication – Speak in their language, whether it's face-to-face or digital.
3️⃣ Collaboration – Be curious, not judgmental. Ask. Engage. Learn.

Here’s to more mornings like this—full of purpose, connection, and growth. 🌱

With tools like mind maps and Post-it note planning, she demonstrated that leading yourself is tough—but also the most empowering leadership journey of all.

🧠 Joy Carter followed with “If You Had a Cheat Sheet, Would You Use It?!”—a relatable and insightful talk on building your own "cheat sheet for life." Drawing from her childhood experience playing video games, she explored how we can all benefit from tools, strategies, and support systems to help navigate life's complex levels.
