In 1955, six Black men in Greensboro, NC took a stand against segregation by playing at the whites-only Gillespie Golf Course. Arrested, jailed, and convicted, their fight sparked a years-long legal battle that helped reshape both golf and civil rights history.
To honor their legacy, Wyndham Rewards and Travel + Leisure partnered with First Tee – Central Carolina to commission a mural by award-winning artist Vincent Ballentine. Unveiled ahead of the 85th Wyndham Championship, the mural stands as a vibrant reminder of the Greensboro Six’s impact—and a source of inspiration for future generations.
The story of The Greensboro Six, as well as the creation of the mural, is the subject of this short-form documentary directed by Eternal Polk. The film was recently recognized with a Telly Award for Advocacy & Causes Branded Content.
As Juneteenth approaches, we’re reminded why stories like The Greensboro Six matter—because the work of telling them is part of the work of progress. We’re proud to play a small role in helping these voices reach new audiences.
