It’s been a long time for me to have left you without a dope post to vibe to. So where have I been? OFFline! Why? I’m moving into different fields slowly but surely. Still related to media and marketing though but with an AI focus.

Also, while folks are boycotting those companies that dropped their DEI initiatives, seems most didn’t see, hear, or read that Meta did also. So that too contributes to my lack of presence here, but I’m more active elsewhere. Find me on LinkedIn.

All that leads to my presence at the regional NABJ conference this week. I’m on a panel discussing AI and the future of journalism which social media plays a big role. Say hello if you’re attending the event.

Yes! I strolled to the voting poll and casted my vote EARLY! I hope you do the same. And after you do, BEFORE you leave your voting site, see if it has a social media selfie set up. It may not be out front but somewhere close by on inside.

Not that I think a picture will encourage anyone to vote that’s decided not to, but it just might inspire someone that’s still undecided. You just don’t know. We ALL have some measure of influence even if we don’t realize it.

So if a picture is still worth a 1000s words, use your image to express your willingness to participate in the country’s political process, especially this year. The power of the right image, at the right time, shared with the right people can spark a movement, be a catalyst for change.

That said, be mindful of some of the imagery you see online. AI created imagery is growing rapidly, especially in social media. So just look twice or 3rd time when sharing some of the political imagery popping up in your feeds. If it appears unbelievable, it probably is.

The 4 faces of a social media manager trying to make sense of all the different messaging concerning what to do now to be successful on this app and others. Errrbody is saying something different including the CEO that runs the app! 🙄

So stop making it about the app and pleasing its ever changing algorithms. Find alternatives to connecting with your target markets. Shooo! Go old school and do events, workshops, or write a physical book and sell it offline AND online.

For us old heads what used to work still does. Add a layer of social media marketing to your efforts and you’re not totally dependent on a platform you have no control over for your business.

Wooo! There’s so much misinformation on social media, and so little time to explain how to identify it! So real quick here are 5 things to look for in misinformation content. Swipe through then apply these identifiers to disinformation campaigns too.

Disinformation is propaganda—flat out lies—created to make you believe untruths. Geee! Where have we seen that before?

Did you read the message? Now read it again and apply it to social media. We, the users have been soooo hungry for attention, validation, sales, and clout that WE forgot who feeds whom.

WE feed the content—the bread and butter— the platforms need to survive. Without our content there’s nothing to attach advertising to. Thus, there’s no media and there’s nothing social. WE have the power to starve the platform if we chose to.

Yet, some of us—especially young people—act as if the platform is our bread and butter. The likes, follower counts, etc feed our egos, our desire to APPEAR popular and influential. And if it’s taken away, especially the likes and follows, we act as if we’re starving for them to be returned.

As business owners, we too, had begun relying very heavily on social media to “feed” us to help our businesses grow.

And now we see as businesses, what used to be fed freely now comes with high cost in time, effort, resources, and budget.

I say all this to remind you NOT to give the power to the platform. Remember it’s just a TOOL! You can use it freely, but never think you can’t survive without it. Don’t give any platform or tool, you don’t own that much power.

Political commentary will increase in your social media feeds. But do you want to see it? You do have a choice in the matter here on Meta’s Instagram. In your profile settings you can tell IG whether political content from non-followers is allowed. Scroll through to see EXACTLY how.

But even with this new setting political ads, paid influencer content, AND content from friends will still be seen.

You ever scroll through your phone and thanks to certain pictures you realize how much things have changed?

This I’m looking at how I went on “tour” talking to anyone about how to use social media marketing better.

Swipe through and see students, professionals, filmmakers, actors, and small biz owners eager to learn the latest social media tips.

Soooo much has changed over the years. Now these same audiences are seeing the future of and how it can be used to do many of the same marketing tasks I do daily.

Do I fear being replaced? No. My purpose has always been to enlighten people on how to use digital marketing tools.

Evolving with the times is a necessity no matter your industry.

Are you willing to evolve with me? I hope so cause the whole conversation around social media marketing is rapidly changing.

I just posted this to Instagram and honestly, forgot about sharing it here. Meet my first AI created avatar. Took me less than an hour to give birth to her. And I only used 3 tools. If you see this post and want to know which tools, ask in the comments.

Admittedly, she needs more of a human touch, but the more I play around with AI tools, the better I’ll get!
