Draw Water from the Wells of Salvation
Water is a source of life, and man can live only a few days without it. The prophet, Isaiah, writes in 12:3 ESV, “With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.” Here, Isaiah, compares the life-giving water to the spiritual love of God drawn from God’s plan of salvation. Before the foundation of the world, God chose us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ (Eph 1:4–5). Jesus described the Word of God as “living water,” when speaking to the Samaritan woman in John 4:14 ESV, “but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Isaiah writes again in 25:9 ESV, “It will be said on that day, ’Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation,’” and again in 40:5 ESV, “And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.” Jesus said, “Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life” (John 5:24 ESV). So, as Isaiah wrote, “draw water from the wells of salvation,” by studying and applying the principles of the gospel to our lives until Jesus guides us “to springs of living water” and God wipes away “every tear” from our eyes (Rev 7:17 ESV). by Larry Kuka
