Shots are the images shown when you take a picture or video. They can vary based on size or angle. Each shot size changes the perspective of the action or subject shown.
Wide shots establish the scene and can be used to transition between scenes. Think about when you’re showing a day in the life. You can bring viewers inside your office, workspace, or another setting. This sets the scene for your content.
Medium shots give natural perspective and can show one or more subjects (people). When shooting a person you can film them from the waist up doing certain actions or having conversations. You can also shoot your surroundings like this too I.e. home fixtures, equipment, different rooms, kitchen tools, funeral displays, painting etc.
Close up shots are all about the details. When shooting a subject you can focus on facial expressions and body language. For spaces, items, and other scenery, this is the chance to show details that you may not catch in a wider shot.
Not all shots are made equally and your b-roll needs variety. Switching up the shot sizes gives your audience another perspective when seeing how you work, your work itself, and your interactions with clients.
