Thank you to everyone who came out to Seats at the Table and our panel discussion at the Hampton Roads Social Justice Conference.

Such an engaged audience — your questions made the conversation even more meaningful.

Proud to bring this conversation together with Divine Lipscomb, Giovannie Hernandez, and Jesse Crosson — and Christina Schmitt, who uses Seats at the Table with her incarcerated students in Loudoun County, VA, and facilitated so thoughtfully.

Seats at the Table, directed by Chris Farina, follows a remarkable college course created by Dr. Andrew Kaufman, bringing together university students and incarcerated youth through the study of Russian literature.

What begins as separation becomes connection — stereotypes fall away, relationships form, and both groups leave transformed.

This is where impact begins.

Today at 1PM EST — join us for a critical conversation on Mental Health and Incarceration.

Listen Out Loud Media speakers Divine Lipscomb and Stacy Burnett will join:

Moderator Jonathan Morgan
Panelist Victoria Scott

for the Stop the Stigma Online Conference — examining the intersection of mental health, incarceration, and public health.

Together, the panel will explore:

• Mental health care inside prisons versus in the public sphere
• Peer support, survival strategies, and collective coping
• How neurodivergence is too often labeled as misconduct
• The tension between institutional security and psychological treatment
• When medication becomes care — and when it becomes a substitute
• What meaningful reform in carceral mental health could actually look like

Mental health inside carceral spaces is not separate from public health. It is a structural issue with real human consequences.

Date: February 20
Time: 1PM EST

We are proud to see our speakers contributing to national conversations that move policy, education, and public understanding forward.

How Pomfret School spent MLK Day.

Not with a lecture. Not with a video. With real conversation.

Our speaker GIOVANNIE HERNANDEZ led interactive workshops on Choices, Chances, & Change — challenging students to think critically about the decisions that shape their lives and communities.

This is what MLK Day programming can look like: active, engaging, and rooted in dialogue that actually matters.

Students didn't just sit and listen. They stood, engaged, and wrestled with hard questions about justice, opportunity, and what it means to create change.

Thank you for your commitment to meaningful programming that honors Dr. King's legacy through action, not just remembrance.
