Okay so have you heard about this? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Calbee, a major Japanese snack brand, just stripped all the color off their chip bags.

Supply chain disruptions cut off their ink supply and 14 of their most iconic products are going fully monochrome. No mascot. No color. Just type on a gray bag. 😳

And it got me thinking 💭 about something we talk about a lot. Color does SO much heavy lifting in branding. Take it away and suddenly everything feels unfamiliar.

That’s exactly why we build brands that work in black and white first. Your typography, your shapes, your overall vibe. Those have to be strong 💪🏻 enough to carry the brand when color can’t. Because when life happens, and it will, you want to pivot without losing anything.

When your designer hands over your logo, you should be walking away with a full set of files. Each one has a job. Each one matters. Print, web, social, vendors, they all need something different.

First impressions happen faster than you think. Before someone reads a single word they are already feeling your brand. And when it is clear, consistent and intentional? Trust builds almost instantly.
When it is not? 👎🏻They hesitate. They scroll past. They forget you ever existed.

But honestly… it doesn’t really work like that. Your brand is something you grow 🪴 into.
