Lack of health information disproportionately affects multicultural communities, creating barriers to effective healthcare. When communities are not equipped with accurate and accessible health information, the consequences can be severe, leading to misdiagnoses, delayed treatments, and overall poorer health outcomes. It’s vital that we prioritize culturally competent communication and proactive community engagement to ensure all individuals have the knowledge and resources they need to make informed health decisions. Together, we can work towards a future where health equity is a reality for everyone.

Holidays are a great time to catch up, have fun, relax... and share stories! Especially if you’ve got the family together for the first time in a while, it’s a chance to make sure those family histories and those often undertold stories about heritage and culture get shared, passed down and preserved.

Well, if you’re from the Williamsburg area — or know someone who is — this is a great opportunity for you to participate in an incredible story sharing initiative, as part of the City of Williamsburg, Virginia African American Heritage Trail. JMI and  are partnering with the City and the African American Heritage Trail Advisory Committee to collect family and personal stories related to African American heritage, history and culture in and around Williamsburg.

Earlier this week, several members of the JMI team had the privilege of attending a (Helping Young Professionals Engage) event, organized by our Director of Account Management, Brelan Hillman.

The event centered around economic and community development in our region and offered excellent networking opportunities alongside a robust and nuanced discussion.

We enjoyed hearing from the distinguished panel, including Meghan Welch from the VA Economic Development Partnership, Jer’Mykeal McCoy from the Richmond EDA, and Daniel Strait from , with Ted Elmore from moderating. The panelists shared invaluable insights on current and upcoming economic and community development initiatives. They also provided their perspectives on how young professionals can actively contribute to shaping our community’s future.

It was an inspiring and informative evening, reinforcing the importance of civic engagement and the impact we can all have in our community.
