On Saturday, Nov. 13th will celebrate in media.

The Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists (PABJ) will honor extraordinary journalism, communications and community standouts at its annual Awards and Scholarship Gala.

The awards for exemplary reporting, media management, and community activism will be presented by PABJ, the nation’s oldest association of journalists of color, during a gala ceremony at Quorum - University City Science Center.

Last week I had the pleasure of joining PA Agricultural Secretary Russell Redding on behalf of the Governor’s Commission on African American Affairs during week at Boys'​ Latin of Philadelphia. The visit was just one stop during the tours of urban agriculture operations across the commonwealth.

While I learned a great deal of information, what I was most impacted by was the passion the students had for their grow(th) through the lens of nurturing and planting the seeds. The students referred to the plants as their children and that their role as the seed planter is that of a father figure, helping them to survive, take care of them with the things they need and be there for them.

The power in their words hit like a ton of bricks as their school community just lost yet another student to gun violence the day before this visit.

Salute to the Boys Latin leadership team and the Pinwheel Group who are providing academic, social and career development through hands on urban farming. so happy for you! You brothas are phenomenal.
