In true “me fashion” I am still wrapping up projects this weekend with only a few days/week until the munchkin arrives. I am wrapping up work that came in this week and cannot take on any further projects at this time. Please follow up with me in mid-November to coordinate resume projects. 🙏

With only a few weeks to go, I will be wrapping up projects by the 26th of September and taking about a month or two off from the side hustle. It’s not to say I can’t help with some quick updates in between mommyhood, but I want to give myself a proper break to take a breath before the baby arrives and enjoy some bonding time.

Please reach out asap to schedule any updates needed before the leave.

Exciting news to close out the summer!

After months and months of planning, my website is finally live! Thank you to my friend Stephen for building and designing a website that mixes my playful personality with a professional look and layout that demonstrates my vast experience in career coaching and resume writing.

This marks a pivotal moment for me as I continue growing this side hustle.

Thank you to all my friends, family, and clients along the way who allowed me to help them and took my advice (and sometimes tough love). We’ve seen tremendous professional and personal growth over the last 10 years for myself and my clients. I look forward to what’s to come!

Client message on instagram.

Landing your first job or even your 5th job takes time. Especially in this economy. Trust the process.

Things to do as part of the hunt

1. Keep your resume up to date and make different versions if you are applying for vastly different positions. If I can’t read it and see how you’d be a good fit, then I’m not moving you along in the application process

2. Network! I can’t stress this enough. It is still all about who you know and who can open doors for you. Put yourself out there and be vocal about what you want to do and your strengths

3. Take classes in the meantime. Build up your skill sets - project management, AI, social, design…whatever will make you a triple threat!

A sneak preview of the mobile version of my new website. We are doing some final touches behind-the-scenes, but I’m excited that it’s all coming together.

Ps, we integrated with stripe so you can pay for resume services via credit card,
PayPal, and Klarna in addition to what I already offer - Zelle and PayPal. Very exciting times here!

A peer shared this with me. An interesting read. I have up - until recently - not utilized AI for Resumes because my selling point is that I create something custom and focused for each specifically client. Well, I wrote a resume as I normally do and then ran it through an AI platform to see what tips they offered to pump it up even further.

My observations:

1. In many cases, AI creates results #’s out of thin air. Simply pulling from google.

2. In some cases, it does reword things in a more concise way for easier consumption

3. The tone still can be robotic at times

So while I will stick with my personalized touches, I will run it through AI for simple editing. Not a complete overhaul.

But I will say that career coaches and resume writers like me offer a value that AI does not. Personalized, custom and human touches that allow you to accentuate your skills in a relatable way. A coach will also guide you along the way - keeping you motivated, talking you off the ledge, helping you prepare for interviews and negotiating an offer with you.

At the end of the day, would you trust WebMD to treat you for something potentially serious or would you consult a doctor? Same thing here. This is an investment in your career and livelihood. I wouldn’t rely solely on AI tools like ChatGPT to determine your next move.

Candidates are frustrated. Employers are overwhelmed. The problem? An untenable pile of applications — many of them generated with the help of A.I. tools.

This is a new concept for me, but something I plan to explore for my next client project.

This recruiter created a brag doc roughly 10 years ago and says she's used it in every interview since.

Great article! Right off the bat addresses ChatGPT and the need to make the resume sound customized and personal instead of robotic. Lots of good dos and dont’s here for anyone looking to update their resume.

May is supposed to be an exciting time for college graduates and their families...a month of celebrations - the culmination of 4 years of hard work, sleepless nights, 10 page papers, final exams, and a little fun in between.

But now, graduates are grappling with landing their first job in an uncertain job market. The article below outlines the current economic climate with nearly 2 million college grads joining the search for work.

I have several clients living out this scenario right now. Applying for hundreds of jobs and not one bite. They look good on paper, but may lack some real-world experience. But how do they get that experience without someone taking a chance on them?

I lived this nearly 20 years ago. With a degree in Journalism & Media Studies...I thought I was going to be Diane Sawyer! It didn't turn out that way, but I have carved out a meaningful career filled with twists and turns.

Here is some unsolicited advice for the college grads out there.

1. Know that you are not the only one feeling anxious, frustrated, and defeated. This to shall pass.

2. Pound the pavement everyday. Start your day with a purpose...shower, get dressed, and check all the job sites in the morning - Indeed, LinkedIn, etc. etc. Apply away. You can also look for an "in" at the companies you are applying for. Does someone in your network work for the company or is there a connection? Ask them to send it in for you (even if you already applied online!) It is still about "who you know."

3. Network. Be humble. Send emails, LinkedIn messages. Go to events. Sit in Starbucks with your laptop...let people know you are looking to get into X type of career. Talk to your parents and their friends. What do they do for work? Who do they know? Work that extended network. Meet people for "informational" coffee meetings.

4. Keep your mind right. Get a part-time job (even if it isn't in your field) to stay sharp, make money, and network. We don't know how long it will take to find your first gig. Time is money! Go make some while you apply and interview for full-time jobs.

5. Don't be afraid to take a paid or unpaid internship...even as a college graduate. Get some experience and bulk up that resume while you look for something full-time.

6. Don't give up. And don't feel like your first job is the end all, be all. It is a stepping stone to bigger and better things. Take every opportunity as a chance to build up that resume, learn new skills, and meet new people!

As always, I am here for your resume writing/editing and career coaching support. I also give one heck of a pep talk!
