Lately I’ve been noticing more and more local businesses around Roanoke, Christiansburg, and Blacksburg using AI-generated logos.
The part that stresses me out is that most of these business owners probably don’t know that their AI logo is ALREADY actively hurting their reputation, and they just haven’t realized yet.
A logo is one of the first signals people use to decide whether they trust a business… and the fact is that people simply don’t trust AI.
And every time I see an AI logo my graphic designer brain kind of short circuits a little. 🤪
Not because I’m completely anti-AI.
But because AI is not good at graphic design.
It can generate images that LOOK like logos, but they usually contain things like alignment issues, inconsistent shapes, fonts that don’t exist, or details that translate terribly once you try to use the design in the real world.
The concepts are also often cliché, uncreative, or miss the mark entirely.
That said, I do NOT mind when people bring me AI logos as inspiration. It tells me they’ve already started thinking visually about their brand, which is great. (Love that for us.)
But usually, that’s where the AI part should stop and the hiring-a-professional part should begin.
AI can help generate ideas and vocabulary.
But building a brand that actually works across websites, signage, social media, and print still takes thoughtful design from a real human.
