Discover a few of the city’s most chilling stories during a paranormal tour with Haunted Rockford
📍Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum and Gardens
One of Rockford’s best documented haunted locations, Tinker Swiss Cottage has been the site of reported cigar smoke, unexplained voices, and full-bodied apparitions. Paranormal experiences have even attracted national ghost shows like Ghost Hunters.
📍Coronado Theatre
Unexplained voices, perfume, cigar smoke, and mysterious figures have all been reported inside the Coronado Theatre.
📍Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum
One of the building’s best-known stories involves a mysterious woman seen and heard throughout the hall. During one late-night encounter, a security guard reportedly heard a woman’s voice say, “I’m Ella.”
📍Greenwood Cemetery
Local legends tell of a woman in Victorian mourning clothes, the spirit of a former sheriff, and a tall man dressed in black wandering among the cemetery’s historic graves.
📍Graham-Ginestra House
Staff have reported hearing voices, feeling watched, and seeing figures inside the historic home. Some have even heard unexplained music or seen someone pass through a doorway.
📍Ethnic Heritage Museum
Staff have experienced unexplained voices, lights turning on and off, and mannequins seemingly moving on their own, including one display that repeatedly changed positions overnight.
📍Manny Mansion
Museum staff have reported old-fashioned music, doors opening and closing, flickering lights, and small shadowy figures darting from room to room, especially upstairs.
📍Barnes Mansion at Burpee Museum of Natural History
Staff have heard the sounds of parties in an otherwise empty building and returned outside after closing to find lights mysteriously turned back on. A woman has also reportedly appeared in an upstairs window.
📍Lucerne’s Fondue Restaurant
The restaurant has long embraced its resident “spirits.” One story recalls a mysterious voice interrupting the music system during a busy Valentine’s night with an unsettling message.

For years, people have reported seeing a silent woman in a long white gown walking along the Rock River downtown.
