They’re not dead; they just got a facelift and look a little different now.
Hashtags can still be a useful tool to get your content in front of the right audience.
The misconception is that hashtags are magically supposed to boost your post’s reach or make your posts go viral. They don’t do that directly.
Hashtags today are used to categorize your content and make it easier for platform algorithms to deliver it to people who might be interested.
That said, using a million hashtags to try and get your content in front of everyone might seem like a clever strategy, but you’d be wrong. The algorithm will likely flag you as a spam account.
Our recommendation? If you use hashtags, think carefully about which audiences should see your post, and use 3-5 tags that help define your niche.
Of course, engaging content that keeps eyes on your page is the most important key to successful social media, but hashtags can help get the right eyes focused in.
