As Black History Month draws to a close, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on the significance of the occasion – a chance to celebrate the achievements, strength, and legacy of the Black community.

At DSFederal, we are committed to uplifting minority communities through both our business practices and the projects we support. To that end, one of our initiatives is investing in the education of our future generations. We are proud to have contributed to this mission by designing an effective and impactful web portal for contracts and grants within the Path to Excellence and Innovation (PEI) HBCU Initiative.

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have played an important role in our nation’s history, offering educational opportunities while helping to celebrate and preserve Black culture. Through our support of HBCUs, we hope to honor their legacy of excellence and pave the way for future success, this month and throughout the year.

89 years later, on June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and issued General Order No. 3, which announced the total emancipation of enslaved people in Texas. This day became known as Juneteenth, combining "June" and "nineteenth."

What makes America great is our democracy and respect for diversity. This is why no other country could ever surpass the USA; no country has Americans' generosity towards newcomers. I witnessed it firsthand in 1979, in rural Illinois, while attending ISU.

Let's celebrate Juneteenth with a shared commitment to making the world a better place for every child, adult, and senior.

Chen has over 13 years of experience overseeing DSFederal’s finance and accounting operations, creating multiple financial control procedures, and providing financial guidance to project managers on 30+ contracts.
