I have this beautiful photo saved in a draft from last year when I started using a co-working space to work away from home slowly. My daughter and husband came to pick me up and we sat together on the floor and I saw her looking at me, in my work outfit, her in her pajamas, and it reminded me of how I would look at my mom, with her curlers in, making coffee, wearing a nice outfit, getting ready to work her butt off as a single mom of two kids.

I also remember a handful of snuggly early mornings she woke us up to watch the sunrise together and sneak in a present moment before work, school, and after school care until she got off work and across town to pick us up. She probably missed us so much.

Mamas—our babies are watching us and soaking up what’s possible. I hope my daughter believes, just like I did from my mom, that she truly can be anything she wants to be, as long as she sets a goal and works toward it. 🩷

I’ve always believed in myself (maybe even delusionally at times) and my ability to live life on my own terms and care for myself and my loved ones. I’m so fortunate to have a loving and supportive husband and partner and together we have made choices to live life raising our daughter as hands-on as we can, making impactful decisions that might look like sacrifice some days but allow us to be as present as we can while we try to build for our future.

May our children learn to be multifaceted, resilient, present, ambitious, stubbornly relentless, positively optimistic, and maybe even delusionally confident in themselves. 🩷

Whether you have a sweet baby and toddler by your side (like I do) or you’re still a mama with kids in school or daycare, these 4 places are filled with nourishing treats, drinks, and unique surroundings and most have realll food too.

Plus they ALL have delicious food and drink options with gluten free and dairy free options in abundance and WiFi!

Petaluma:
1) Art Play Café (café, food, free play area + gated paid play area with beautiful mostly natural materials for climbing and make believe play plus an arts and craft loft, music classes on the weekends)

2) Grand Central Petaluma (café, food, outdoor play area with sand pit, toys, and houses—far enough from river’s edge, hammock and chairs overlooking the water, live music and hot food outside on some weekends)

Cotati/Rohnert Park
3) Lady Blume microbakery + coffee. (Formerly Saltwater bakery) (GF/DF café, all sweets, wooden blocks inside and tables and chairs, larger outside patio and benches underneath a lovely palm tree, right across the street from La Plaza Park in downtown Cotati)

Sebastopol
4) Wylde Provisions Playground & Café (café based on their nourishing bowls Wylde Provisions Co. with GF/DF options built into almost everything, including their kid’s pancakes! But also an amazing natural outdoor space that feels a bit like a mini nature preserve. Open even when the café is closed. Has WiFi, encourages people to come and stay awhile. Sandpit, play kitchen/house, tunnel, climbing net, rope swing. Bring your kid a hat for sunny days! Sometimes have outdoor music and events and you can sign up for a toddler music class close by with Ali and Warren Mann)
