In terms of productivity, is double-vision desirable? No. And I don't get twice as much at each meal, either.

Unfortunately, the recent onset of double-vision will keep me from walking to Point Reyes from Sacramento this spring. Instead, the 150-mile adventure set to start this Thursday; is rescheduled to the fall but not canceled. The initial blow has passed. As tests continue, I adjust my timetables to deal with a few limitations, including a sporty black eye patch to go pirate mode when I get tired of closing one eye.

Luckily, my work vision is fine, and I have no other symptoms. The change gives me more time to support stewardship on our route. Meanwhile, I have a team of talented doctors and a hopeful mindset. Any hand dealt will guarantee adventure!

As for Gypsy and Oso, they don't know the difference in our plans but are happy I continue walking, though close to home for now.

Do you want to meet heroes? Go to Duck Days, Yolo Basin Foundation's premiere event on April 29 from 9 AM to 4 PM. The festivities deliver outdoor education, activities, fun – and taco trucks – to families.

YBF's staff of superheroes and partners combine stewardship and environmental appreciation with games, activities, and exhibits for a full day of fun.

Oh, and I hear they have a great logo this year!

I'll admit it: Volunteering tickles my adventure bones. Take a recent event with the Putah Creek Council and Solano County Water Agency at Peterson's Ranch near Rio Vista.

Volunteering can make you feel like a kid if you let it. Ponchos and gloves and tall rubber boots. Cows and mud and rain. Adventure!

Together, we planted over 2000 tiny plants in four hours. These are pollinators, a vital step to convert former grazing land to support a broader role in the environment.

The 4-hour drive between Fort Bragg and Sacramento is nice, though, eh, I'd rather walk, ride, or paddle. But, after a whole winter of storms, Thursday's drive was, whoah, stunning. The hills are green, and they are wearing snow hats! I knew I'd be drawing the scene.

Steering wheel in hand, I smiled at the thought of that snow melting into a green carpet across Napa Valley. Perfect for a long walk.

Two long walks were approaching quickly, so Gypsy and I grabbed the cement between our house and Track 7 Brewery—a beautiful night for an Imperial Stout and bonus miles.

Emma and I begin our 12th annual 100-mile walk at the end of the month. It's a 20-mile-a-day stroll across Sacramento. Our daily plan is simple; step out our front door in the morning, down the path, and decide which direction to go. Then, around 45,000 steps later that day, we returned to our front door. We hit 1200 miles this year!

Three weeks later, Gypsy and I walk down the same front steps and don't stop until we get to the ocean.

A map makes it real. Sacramento to Point Reyes. About 150 miles. About 15 miles a day.

I devised the idea for this Camino while following along with a dear friend and fellow adventurer as she walked over 500 miles in Spain—that other Camino.

I decided to create a Way that led somewhere unique to me. Fort Bragg was my first target, but I'm still unraveling the feasibility of that journey. Unfortunately, Highway 1 may be too harsh for a walker. But wouldn't that be cool??? I'm not giving up.

Point Reyes was an instant alternative. My monthly relationship with the space is so strong. Well, here's my first swing at the path Gypsy, Oso, and I will walk.

May is approaching, and my Camino plans are warming up! My dog, Gypsy, and I are walking 150 miles from Sacramento to Point Reyes to learn more about conservation and how to help the heroes that honor our resources. Oso will give Gypsy breaks on the road.

I've already met the wonderful people at Yolo Basin Foundation and the Putah Creek Council. Volunteering for both gave me a peek into their world and wanting to help more.

There are more non-profits and businesses (like Green wineries) on our path, and I'm excited to meet them all.

Point Reyes is a monthly destination for me. I backpack, kayak, and awe at the stunning wilderness, sand, and waves. The Point Reyes National Seashore Association provides impressive access to learning and volunteer opportunities, and I plan to work for them someday. However, I wish I could tug the map and pull the ocean, birds, and elk closer to home. Instead, Limantour Beach became a natural destination for my Greenhouse Camino.

Here are two straightforward marketing tips: One, be where your audience is. And two, know what they do.

Tip number three: If you can immerse yourself in your audience's world while walking your dog through the California wine country en route to the ocean, do it.

Here's the plan: Next May, Gypsy, my daughter's dog, and I will stroll down our street the same way we begin any morning walk. But, this time, we'll keep going. Past Davis, south of Berryessa, until we're leapfrogging the Napa Valley, town-by-town, and reaching Limantour Beach in the Point Reyes National Seashore in about two weeks.

Our Camino will be a remarkable journey. But don't confuse it for a vacation. The adventure is the perfect new market jumping in point. So I'll select an organization representing each leg of the 130-mile trek, beginning with the Yolo Basin Foundation and ending with the Point Reyes National Seashore Association.

From this tour:
I'll take advantage of docent-led outings, hearing directly from the experts from each organization.
I'll volunteer my hands, feet, and back for tasks needed in the field.
I'll add to my understanding of conservation and build on my thirty years of marketing experience.
Finally, I'll turn that knowledge back into service.

The empty pie pan on my desk says Thanksgiving's over. It is the perfect time for a walk!
